Waiver Wire Targets for Week 7 (2021)

As running back injuries continue to pile up there are some valuable rushers available this week, and it might be time to try to get ahead of injuries and handcuff where available, if your roster can bear it through the byepocalypse of week 7. Let’s review a handful of players at each position that will help you keep 4 EYES on The Prize.

As always I will be focusing on players that are rostered in less than 50% of leagues according to Yahoo and ESPN Consensus numbers.

Quarterback Streamers

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders, Consensus Roster Percentage, 49.7%, Week 7 vs Eagles

After two lackluster weeks in a row Derek Carr returned to form to put up yet another top 12 QB week against a tough Broncos defense. Start him confidently against an Eagles team that is struggling to find their footing.

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins, Consensus Roster Percentage 21.2%, Week 7 vs Falcons

Despite the Dolphins giving the Jags their first win Tua had a nice return from injury completing 70% of his passes for 329 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. Start him confidently against a Falcons team that can’t help but give up 30+ points to a team if they are even halfway competent.

Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers, Consensus Roster Percentage 49.1%, Week 7 at Giants

This is Darnold’s last chance to be in streaming consideration. After two outright bad games it is put up or shut up time for Darnold against a Giants team that is on the verge of total collapse. If Darnold puts up a stinker against the Giants he will no longer be in streaming consideration until he proves he can do it or CMC returns.

Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos, Consensus Roster Percentage 18.5%, Week 7 at Browns

Teddy has been solid as a rock for fantasy this season. The only weeks he failed to put up 19+ points are when the Broncos defiled the Jets so completely they had no reason to pass the ball and when he left the game halfway through against the Ravens, due to a concussion. The Browns just lost their ultra-athletic rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and are simply not as good as some of the numbers show, I expect Teddy to have yet another solid fantasy performance on Thursday night in Cleveland.

Running Back

J.D. McKissic, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 44.1%

The man is currently the RB22 in half-point PPR and is the backup to an ailing Antonio Gibson who has an injury that we do not yet know the severity of. If he is for some reason still available in your league, pick him up and start him. Bonus: If you’re in a deep league grab Jaret Patterson for pennies just until we find out more information on Gibson.

Demetric Felton, Cleveland Browns, Consensus Roster Percentage 5.8%

This goes for both Cleveland running backs. If both starters are out D’Ernest Johnson will fill the Nick Chubb role with more carries and less receptions. If Chubb is back you should not play Johnson. Felton should fill the Kareem Hunt role with less carries and more targets. Felton should deliver some value over the next month+ while Kareem Hunt is on the mend, Johnson will not carry much value as long as Nick Chubb is on the field.

Devonta Freeman, Baltimore Ravens, Consensus Roster Percentage 2.2%

Starting someone in the Ravens backfield is like playing Russian Roulette with five bullets in a six-shooter, but if Latavius Murray does not play I would expect Freeman, who doesn’t have much juice left, but has a significant amount more than Lev Bell to be the primary RB2 behind Lamar Jackson.

Drop Candidates
  • Chris Carson, 95%
    • This is a tough one to do, for now you should only drop him in an emergency but I don’t like the trend that has been happening with Carson’s neck injury and am concerned for his future in the NFL and not just for the remainder of the season
  • Jamaal Williams, 74.5%
  • Devin Singletary, 73.8%

Wide Receiver

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears, Consensus Roster Percentage 45.0%

He leads the Bears in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Don’t overthink this one.

A.J. Green, Arizona Cardinals, Consensus Roster Percentage 38.6%

Round and round the Cardinals wide receiver 2 wheel goes, where it stops….could be one of three places. A.J. Green has seen reliable target volume (6 in every game except 1) and done quite a bit with those targets catching almost 66% of them for a whopping 16.2 yards per reception.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions, Consensus Roster Percentage 17.2%

Amon-Ra St. Brown was a popular pick for a rookie sleeper in dynasty until he went to the Lions, but the Lions have been making a concerted effort to get him the ball since Quintez Cephus was lost for the season. St. Brown has seen 8 targets in consecutive games and should continue to see that volume going forward due to the total lack of options at the receiver position in Detroit.

Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs, Consensus Roster Percentage 48.1%

I really didn’t want to do this, but the Chiefs continue to keep Hardman involved in the game finding multiple ways to get him the ball in space. Thus far in his career, he has been disappointing, but Hardman is an insanely good athlete with an insanely good quarterback getting him the ball.

Drop Candidates
  • Robby Anderson
  • Brandon Aiyuk

Tight End

Ricky Seals-Jones, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 24.1%

As long as Logan Thomas is sidelined, Seals-Jones is a must-start after receiving 9 and 6 targets in back-to-back weeks, with multiple targets being end zone looks and him finding the paint just once.

Gerald Everett, Seattle Seahawks, Consensus Roster Percentage 18.1%

Hard to trust Everett at this point with Geno Smith throwing him the ball but he is a worthy speculative add coming off his two-week stint on the COVID list.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers, Consensus Roster Percentage 4.6% (on bye)

The Steelers are on bye next week so don’t add Freiermuth if you need something right away but he will be a nice player to sneak onto your roster for a zero $ bid to see if last week’s target volume sticks.

Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars, Consensus Roster Percentage 8.0% (on bye)

Two players on bye to add-on waivers is indicative of just how bleak the tight end landscape is, but Urban Meyer continues to shoehorn Dan Arnold into his offensive game plan and it doesn’t seem like he is going anywhere. He should continue to see steady target volume and be a nice bye week fill-in after this week.

Defensive Streamers

Las Vegas Raiders, Week 7 vs Eagles

The Raiders defense has been good, not great, and will undoubtedly allow the Eagles to put up 20+ points due to Jalen Hurts being the king of garbage time this year, but they should get to him enough in the first three quarters and force a turnover or two to make them a worthy defensive stream.

New Orleans Saints, Week 7 at Seahawks

It is extremely difficult to pick a defense going into Seattle to stream, but, and hear me out on this, Geno Smith.
