Waiver Wire Targets for Week 6 (2021)

Another week, another mass of injuries, particularly at the running back position and to the entire Giants team. Let’s try to flesh this out and figure out some short term help and some long term targets to help you position yourself for the playoffs and keep 4 EYES on the prize.

Same as last week I will be focusing on players that are rostered in less than 50% of leagues according to Yahoo and ESPN consensus numbers.

Quarterback Streamers

Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 14.3%, Week 6 vs. Chiefs

He had an off week against a tough New Orleans defense, but the Chiefs have been a nice get right week for quarterbacks all year giving up the second-most points to the position.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars, Consensus Roster Percentage 46.5%, Week 6 vs Dolphins

Lawrence has been solid the past two weeks putting up 17.8 and 21.7 points. He should put up another solid but not spectacular week against a floundering Miami team.

Jacoby Brissett, Miami Dolphins, Consensus Roster Percentage 2.6%, Week 6 at Jaguars

Brissett has had two tough weeks in a row facing Indianapolis and Tampa but he has still found a way to score over 14 points every week. Brissett is another Lawrence type where he likely won’t boom, but against a very bad Jaguars team, he will not bust.

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers, Consensus Roster Percentage 22.0%, Week 6 vs Seahawks

Gross, I know, but Ben has thrown the ball 40 or more times in 3 of 5 weeks this season, and against a Seahawks defense that is surrendering the 8th most points to the position Ben should turn in a very satisfying performance in Week 6.

Running Back

Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs, Consensus Roster Percentage 11.8%

CEH going down for “a few weeks” presents a nice opportunity for Williams. Not only goes he appear to be the bell cow back up, but most importantly he has the same amount of targets on the year as CEH. I don’t believe anyone would question CEH being the more talented player, but Mahomes clearly trusts Williams more in the passing game.

Devontae Booker, New York Giants, Consensus Roster Percentage 4.9%

The Giants have lost quite literally their entire offense to injury, however, there is still hope Daniel Jones plays this week and with Saquon being out likely 2-3 weeks after a nasty looking ankle injury Booker should rake in opportunities after seeing 20 of them last week after Saquon went out.

Alex Collins, Seattle Seahawks, Consensus Roster Percentage 39.5%

Chris Carson’s neck injury seems very mysterious and appears to be able to pop up at any time. I wouldn’t blow your budget is Collins is still somehow available in your league but he is a must-add for Carson managers and a priority stash for everyone else.

Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears, Consensus Roster Percentage 11.8%

This one makes sense. “Juice” Herbert as he was referred to in college put up almost 1200 rushing yard his last year of college at Virginia Tech and is quite simply a good football player. Damien Williams still got the rushing touchdown and all of the receiving work, but Herbert led the team in rushing attempts, yards, and yards per carry. Montgomery going down and the team splitting work between Williams and Herbert gives Herbert a golden opportunity to overtake Williams as the clear backup and solidify a role in this offense even when Montgomery comes back.

Wide Receiver

Kadarius Toney, New York Giants, Consensus Roster Percentage 13.9%

Jason Garrett was finally forced to give the ball to his electric first round pick after losing his ENTIRE receiving corps to injury. That might not bode well for whenever Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and Kenny Golladay return from injury, but after a massive breakout game of 10 receptions on 13 targets for 189 yards that was cut short after Toney reminded people he spent 4 years in Gainesville, he will be extremely difficult to not give the ball.

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears, Consensus Roster Percentage 47.4%

Two weeks of Justin Fields being game planned for, two weeks of Darnell Mooney leading the team in targets. This should eventually correct and Allen Robinson should take over as the 1, but on the off chance it doesn’t you could have a shot at the WR1 for a rookie quarterback that should improve every week.

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders, Consensus Roster Percentage 49.9%

This could be your last chance to grab Hunter Renfrow if he is still available in your leagues. There is no two ways around this, Hunter Renfrow is Derek Carr’s wide receiver 1 in this offense. He might be number 3 in snap count but he is number 1 Wide Receiver on this team in every meaningful statistic including Targets, first down receptions, and red zone targets. Put him on your roster and put him in your flex every week and have a nice safe flex floor.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions, Consensus Roster Percentage 3.7%

Amon-Ra is not only on the NFL All Name Team, but he was the Lions top offensive “skill” position pick in the draft this year. Add onto that Quintez Cephus is out for possibly the season and Amon-Ra has led the team in the receptions for 2 weeks straight you have a formula for rest of season production on a talent deficient team that is going to be playing from behind, A LOT.

Tight End

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots, Consensus Roster Percentage 40.8%

Could Hunter Henry be establishing himself as the TE1 in New England? Or could he just have a decent connection with Mac Jones? I’m not sure anyone can tell the future but if I am streaming tight end and I don’t have a top 12 guy I am willing to ride the lightning and see if I can get another touchdown from him next week.

Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars, Consensus Roster Percentage 2.7%

It took two weeks for Dan Arnold to somehow lead the Jags in receiving. I don’t expect for it to continue but he is going to remain a big part of this offense as a safety blanket for Trevor Lawrence who is still adjusting to the speed of NFL defenses.

Tyler Conklin, Minnesota Vikings, Consensus Roster Percentage 22.4%

Conklin will likely never have a boom game with Justin Jefferson and Adam Theilen being target hogs on this team, however this offense still has room to give Conklin 25 targets over the first 5 weeks of the season and see no reason for it to stop anytime soon.

Ricky Seals-Jones, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 1.4%

Ricky Seals-Jones is the definition of a player who is deserving of the Mr. Necessary moniker. He is only worth rostering as long as Logan Thomas is out. He jumped in two weeks ago after Logan Thomas went out and immediately was given 4 targets. He doubled that count this week with 8, 2 of which were end zone targets that couldn’t quite connect. Heinicke seems to love targeting his tight ends in the end zone which should have Ricky Seals-Jones putting up 6 sometime sooner rather than later.

Defensive Streamers

Indianapolis Colts, Week 6 vs Texans

As I write this the Colts defense is in the process of putting an absolute beatdown on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Regardless of this week’s weird Davis Mills performance, the Texans are still one of the most talent-deficient teams in the NFL. The Colts should not have an issue going into Houston and getting a turnover or two out of the Texans.

Dallas Cowboys, Week 6 at Patriots

The Cowboys remain one of the most opportunistic defenses in the NFL through 5 weeks. They’ve put up enough sacks, interceptions, and defensive touchdowns to be the third-ranked DST in all of football. Mac Jones remains a rookie quarterback who has been struggling mightily who is having to go up against a team with an excellent offense and a defense that is getting after the quarterback right now. Fire them up.
