Waiver Wire Targets for Week 4 (2021)

Wide Receiver remains a very strong waiver position this week with one running back that can win you some matchups. Let’s review four players at each position, except for tight end because, impossible, that will help you keep 4 EYES on the Prize.

Quarterback Streamers

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders, Consensus Roster Percentage 51.4%, Week 4 @ Chargers

Derek Carr has done nothing but lead the NFL in passing yards through 3 weeks against three tough defenses by more than 100 yards. Don’t overthink it.

Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers, Consensus Roster Percentage 20.3%, Week 4 @ Cowboys

Darnold has not put up less than 20 fantasy points in a game this season. He might not be the best quarterback in the NFL, but he is the quarterback for an extremely well-run offense. He has flashed some of the athleticism that we knew him for coming out of USC and I refuse to believe Joe Brady is going to let his quarterback fail.

Daniel Jones, New York Giants, Consensus Roster Percentage 46.9%, Week 4 @ Saints

The Giants aren’t any good, and the Saints are nothing short of an enigma so far this season. Last week showed you that even with a terrible game Jones’ rushing baseline will not leave you feeling totally empty at the end of the day. He is still worth a stream going to New Orleans.

Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 7.5%, Week 4 @ Falcons

Heinicke has not started a game where he has put up less than 25 fantasy points this season. He remains an extremely low-rostered player who is doing nothing but performing. The defense has not performed up to expectation yet this season which is nothing but good news for offensive output.

Running Back

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers, Consensus Roster Percentage 25.5%

Chuba is clearly the top waiver add coming off a Christian McCaffrey hamstring injury. Although the Panthers did not put CMC on the IR I still find it hard to believe he will be back in the next 3 games after a hamstring injury, which tends to linger. I believe Chuba will be a solid RB2 for the next 3-4 weeks and make his home country of Canada proud.

Peyton Barber, Las Vegas Raiders, Consensus Roster Percentage 7%

This one is a big question mark due to the status of Josh Jacobs, but with Jacobs not able to get in a single practice last week it does not bode well for his availability going into week 4. He gets the extra day of rest with the Raiders having a Monday night matchup but if he cannot go Barber should see close to 20 carries again and be a viable RB3.

J.D. Mckissic, Washington Football Team, Consensus Roster Percentage 48.1%

With the game script being blown out by the Bills in Week 3, you would hope to have seen more targets for McKissic. However, with the Bills blowing their absolute doors off they were forced to throw it downfield again and again. McKissic continues to see over a 40% snap share (46% in week 3) and will continue to see work.

Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia Eagles, Consensus Roster Percentage 37.7%

Kenny Gainwell did not see a lot of success against the Cowboys on Monday night, but then again neither did much of anyone else on the Eagles. It would be difficult to start Gainwell on a weekly basis, but he continues to see a healthy snap share (over 30% again in week 3) and is only one injury away from being an extremely relevant running back. It never hurts to try to get in on a guy a week early if you have an open roster spot.

Wide Receiver

Tim Patrick, Denver Broncos, Consensus Roster Percentage 24.3%

Jerry Jeudy is out for another month. KJ Hamler is out for the season. Tim Patrick is going to continue to be a very large part of what appears to be an adequate passing game. Not only did he have the exact same snap count as Courtland Sutton, but he also had the same number of targets as him in week 3. This Wide Receiver corps is a 1-2 punch with neither appearing to have a clear advantage right now. Get Patrick on your roster and into your starting lineup.

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders, Consensus Roster Percentage 14.7%

Hunter Renfrow might be the WR3 on this team according to snap counts but he is one of Derek Carr’s most trusted weapons. When they need a first time Renfrow is the go-to guy, as evidenced by his 23 targets on the season, which is second on the team to only Darren Waller. With his lack of general explosiveness, Renfrow will never be a high priority for opposing defenses allowing him to continue to make high leverage plays week in and week out.

Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals, Consensus Roster Percentage 43.9%

Kyler Murray is looking like a true MVP candidate this year and Christian Kirk continues to deliver week in and week out. Kirk is currently the WR15 on the season and has the luxury of never seeing an opposing defenses top defender due to the presence of a guy name Deandre Hopkins. He will have a down week here and there but should be heavily relied upon in week 4 as Hopkins draws Jalen Ramsey.

Emmanuel Sanders, Buffalo Bills, Consensus Roster Percentage 28.7%

The Bills offense got off to a bit of a slow start this year, but week 3 appears to be just the kick start they needed. Emmanuel Sanders has 20 targets on the year and has somehow out-snapped Stefon Diggs on the year (only by 3 snaps but as they say, a win is a win). Emmanuel Sanders should continue to be the unquestioned WR2 on this team and start turning more of these targets into fantasy points as this offense hits its stride.

Tight End

Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills, Consensus Roster Percentage 8.1%

In a fantasy position so devoid of life as the tight end position, Dawson Knox has managed to be the TE6 on the year due to catching a couple of touchdowns. This might be point chasing, but at this position, point chasing can be a necessity if you do not have one of the clear top 5 guys.

Jared Cook, Los Angeles Chargers, Consensus Roster Percentage 54.8%

Jared Cook has seen a steady decline in his target volume week to week (8, 5, then 3), but he also continues to see touchdowns taken away from him due to penalties. One of these weeks Cooks is going to concert one of these touchdowns and put himself into the top 6 range on the week

Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars, Consensus Roster Percentage 3.7%

This is a total dart throw, but the Jags appear to really want to use a tight end in this offense and Dan Arnold is now the clear TE1 on this team as he adjusts to the offense. The Jags went as far as sending the number 9 overall pick from 18 months ago to the Panthers in order to acquire Arnold and I cannot imagine Urban Meyer not incorporating him into the offense.
