Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 9 (2023)

2023 Starts and Sits Week 9 | Fantasy In Frames

Welcome to our ninth Start & Sit article at Fantasy In Frames for the 2023 fantasy football season!

You’ve waited long enough, mates. Let’s get down to it. Here are my Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 9 (2023)!

Start

  1. Zach Wilson (vs Los Angeles Chargers)
  • The Chargers are allowing a league high 21.94 points per game (ppg) to the QB position this year.
  • Three of the eight QB1 overall finishers this season have done so against the Chargers. Only two of the seven QBs that have faced the Chargers have finished outside of the top-13 scorers at the QB position this season, both are rookies. (Aidan O’Connell & Tyson Bagent)
  1.  Daniel Jones (@ Las Vegas Raiders)
  • Daniel Jones looks likely to return to the starting lineup after missing some time with a neck injury. The QB hasn’t played since week 5 against Miami. Jones finished as the QB1 overall in week 2 against Arizona, and could be a similarly nice upside play against a lackluster Raiders defense.
  • The Raiders have played only two other QBs who possess a similar dual-threat ability to Daniel Jones this season. Both finished as top-7 QBs that week.
  1. Mac Jones (vs Washington Commanders)
  • Washington is allowing the second most fantasy points per game to the QB position this season 21.28, and having just traded starting edge rush duo Chase Young and Montez Sweat, you wonder if that number is only going to get larger.

Sit

  1. Geno Smith (@ Baltimore Ravens)
  • Geno Smith hasn’t scored 15+ fantasy points since week 3 and hasn’t finished as a top-12 scorer at the QB position since week 2.
  • Baltimore rank 1st in fantasy points allowed to opposing QBs this season. Only one QB has produced a top-12 score against Baltimore this season (Joshua Dobbs. QB8. Week 8)
  1. Tua Tagovailoa (@ Kansas City Chiefs*) *neutral field
  • Tua has only produced three top-10 finishes this season, and is yet to string together back-to-back such weeks. (Finished 9th last week)
  • Kansas City is only allowing 13.54 ppg to the QB position this season.
  1. Justin Herbert (@ New York Jets)
  • The Jets rank top-8 in fantasy points allowed to the QB position, and have already kept QBs such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott to QB2 finishes this season.

Start

  1. Devin Singletary (vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
  • Daemon Pierce hasn’t practiced the last two days which leaves former Buffalo Bills RB Devin Singletary in-line for a heavier workload.
  • Singletary has been steadily getting a larger workload within the offense, posting back-to-back double digit carry games.
  1. Tyler Allgeier (vs Minnesota Vikings)
  • Because Arthur Smith hates us.
  1. Cam Akers (@ Atlanta Falcons)
  • Akers scored his first Vikings TD against Green Bay last week and had a greater YPC than running mate Alexander Mattison
  • With Kirk Cousins joining Justin Jefferson on IR, the Vikings could lean into their running game a little more the next few weeks to help whoever’s under center.

Sit

  1. Tony Pollard (@ Philadelphia Eagles)
  • Pollard has only produced ONE top-10 finish this season!
  • The Eagles lead the league in points allowed to opposing RBs.
  1. Aaron Jones (vs Los Angeles Rams)
  • Aaron Jones has struggled with injuries so far this season, only suiting up in four games. He’s yet to have double-digit carries in a single game.
  • The Rams are a top-10 team in points allowed to opposing RBs.
  1. Emari Demercado (@ Cleveland Browns)
  • The Cardinals de facto RB1 has sat out back-to-back practices with a toe injury and even when healthy has only produced two top-24 finishes this season.
  • Cleveland is only allowing 13.86 fantasy points per game to the RB position. All Arizona RBs should be sat this week.

Start

  1. Nico Collins (vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
  • The Texans WR has produced a couple of huge scoring weeks already this season and can punish a Tampa defense that’s allowing 23.96 fantasy points per game to the WR position.
  1. Jordan Addison (@ Atlanta Falcons)
  • With Justin Jefferson still on IR, Addison is the likely candidate to lead the Vikings receiving core once again. Adddison has eight or more targets in three of the four games since Jefferson’s injury.
  • Addison has finished as WR15 or better in three of the last four games, he also has five receiving TDs in that timespan.

Sit

  1. Drake London (vs Minnesota Vikings)
  • London is currently struggling with a groin injury and even when healthy has only produced one top-12 finish this season.
  • Did I mention Arthur Smith hates us?
  1. DeVonta Smith (vs Dallas Cowboys)
  • Although coming off a stellar performance last week, Devonta Smith has only produced two WR1 finishes all season. He’s yet to better a WR10 finish and has twice as many games finishing with single-digit fantasy points as he does games with 20 or more.
  • The Cowboys are top-5 in fantasy points allowed to WRs through the first eight weeks.

Start

  1. Gerald Everett (@ New York Jets)
  • Produced back-to-back double digit point hauls before missing last week due to injury. Good enough for top-10 finishes in weeks six and seven. Trending towards playing this week.
  1. Taysom Hill (vs Chicago Bears)
  • Three straight top-6 finishes at the position and up against a Bears team ranking inside the bottom-5 in fantasy points allowed to the TE position this season.
  • He literally plays QB.. it’s a cheat code! (Anyone else think you should only be able to start him in a FLEX spot?)

Sit

  1. Jake Ferguson (@ Philadelphia Eagles)
  • Only produced one top-10 finish so far this season. Risky play against a good Eagles side
  1. Kyle Pitts (vs Minnesota Vikings)
  • Son of the FedEx founder hates us.
  • Only has two top-12 finishes this season. Only produced five in his last 18 games.

Start

  1. New England Patriots (vs Washington Commanders)
  • Belichick’s defense has yet to catch fire for fantasy players this season with only one double-digit haul. They have a good opportunity this week against a Washington team who’s moves at the trade deadline suggest a team that’s already looking to the future.

       2. Kansas City Chiefs (vs Miami Dolphins)

  • KC boasts a top-10 defense in fantasy scoring and I think Steve Spagnuolo can draw something up to give Tua a tough time and take the ball away.

Sit

  1. Buffalo Bills (@ Cincinnati Bengals)
    • The Bills defense has had some back-breaking losses this season with Tre White, Matt Milano and DaQuan Jones all very likely to miss the remainder of the season. After a solid start to the year, they’ve not scored double-digit fantasy points since week 5 and play a Bengals team that seems to finally be clicking on offense.
