2024 Dynasty Target: Jaylen Waddle
Hey there, fellow dynasty enthusiasts! Welcome to the latest Fantasy In Frames’ Dynasty Target Profile series edition. We aim to help you prepare for the upcoming season and dominate your dynasty leagues.
With football season just around the corner, the excitement is building, and we can hardly wait for the September kick-off!
The NFL draft is over and free agency has come to a close. Following such an fun offseason, I am excited to introduce you to a talented player who deserves more recognition, but the hype surrounding this year’s rookie class has overshadowed him. Let’s take a closer look at his dynasty target profile and discover why he’s a hidden gem worth targeting. Today, we’ll discuss Jaylen Waddle, the talented wide receiver from the Miami Dolphins. That being said, let’s dive right in!
Player Overview
I project Jaylen Waddle to be the Miami Dolphins’ second-best receiver in the 2024 season. The Dolphins’ offense remains largely unchanged from the previous season. With no new coaches or receiving options added, except for Jonnu Smith. This is advantageous for Waddle, as there will be minimal new target competition.
Waddle’s starting his fourth season with the Dolphins and his fifth-year option is expected to be picked up this offseason.
Several players on the defensive side of the ball are rehabbing from severe season-ending injuries. If they’re not fully recovered by the season start, Miami will rely more on their offense, giving Waddle more chances to shine.
Player Summary
Jaylen Waddle had a career-low in targets and receptions. Despite that he managed to finish his third consecutive 1000-yard season through 14 games. Even being affected by injuries which caused him to miss four games and be limited in others, he was able to produce well in his third season. This resulted in a WR3 finish. Nonetheless, this presents an opportunity to purchase Waddle at a discount, as he will likely rebound in 2024.
Although missing time and playing fewer snaps, he ranked 6th in yards per route run and received a 5th best receiving grade among wide receivers by PFF.
He had a 24% target share as the second receiving option on a high-powered offense team. There is no threat likely to diminish that value.
The Dolphins should have a top offense this season, benefiting Waddle’s production for your dynasty teams.
Trade Value
DLF ADP data for April suggests that Jaylen Waddle’s current price is a mid-2024 first-round pick in rookie drafts, which is equivalent to a 1.05/1.06 pick. However, I feel that this price is slightly too high, and value the top picks in that draft more.
To acquire Waddle, you must be willing to trade a first-round pick in the 1.09-1.11 range to get him. There is a buying window for Waddle right now, thanks to the Dolphins’ recent season performance and the potential of incoming rookies.
I personally plan to hold onto Waddle and expect him to return to the WR2 position with a consistent floor in fantasy points per game.
Jaylen Waddle has been dealing with injuries, and the Miami Dolphins struggled end of season, making him a great buy heading into 2024. Tyreek Hill might not be playing for much longer, and currently, the Dolphins offense is still high-flying. As a result of having another year under Mike McDaniel, I expect them to become even stronger.
With the hype surrounding the incoming rookies reaching a fever pitch, now is the time to acquire Waddle, a young and proven NFL talent on a team that likes to play at a fast pace, which yields more opportunities. It’s time to get excited about Waddle’s potential in 2024!
