Player Overview
As we head into the 2023 season, the Baltimore Ravens have undergone some changes on both sides. While the offense has a new look WR room and offensive philosophy, the defense enters its second season under new DC Mike MacDonald. While the offense has notable additions, the defense has a notable subtraction in the form of Chuck Clark. Clark had been the Ravens’ starting safety for the past six years, and his departure leaves some pretty big shoes to fill for someone, notably Kyle Hamilton.
Hamilton’s rookie season was one of both growing pains and teachable moments. The first half of the season was touch and go as the coaching staff was learning how to utilize his talents best. As of Week Eight, Hamilton had only recorded 14 tackles and one sack. It was from Week 8 and on that the Ravens and MacDonald transitioned Hamilton to a role in the slot and near the line of scrimmage. From that point on, Hamilton recorded 41 tackles, one sack, four QB hits and four passes defended. Notably, Hamilton doubled his fantasy production from the 1st half to the 2nd half.
The 2023 season will be one that will be very interesting to monitor for Hamilton’s fantasy managers. HC Jim Harbaugh has mentioned that he plans to use Hamilton in his strongest role, taking advantage of his pass-rushing skills, ball-hawking mentality, and defensive awareness.
Fantasy Summary
My outlook for Kyle Hamilton is very bullish for the 2023 season. Hamilton is currently my DB3, according to FantasyPros ECR rankings. If the final five weeks of his rookie season indicate future success, we have the beginning of a long and successful IDP run. Effective tackling (10.5% tackle rate) and pass-rush prowess (24% pressure rate) provide a very stable fantasy floor. Sprinkle in his general field awareness and ball skills (2nd in PBUs among S), and the ceiling is elite!
