Player Overview
When Azeez Al-Shaair entered free agency, he couldn’t have dreamed that he’d be able to land in such a perfect spot, as he did with the Tennessee Titans. With the Titans having to make cap room, they had to let three (David Long, Dylan Cole, and Zach Cunningham) of their best inside linebackers go. With no real depth on the roster to speak of, the Titans will rely on Al-Shaair to carry the load defensively. To get a clear view of what he’s capable of, you have to look at the past two seasons. As you can see below when Al-Shaair was the Robin to Warner’s Batman, he was an LB2/LB3 caliber fantasy linebacker. When he was the third wheel behind Warner and Greenlaw, there just wasn’t much meat left on the bone.
Fantasy Summary
With a new role ahead as the lead linebacker for the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South, Al-Shaair is in line to be a breakout candidate for the 2023 season. If their offense continues to struggle, then the defense will be on the field a ton, and that means a huge volume get for Al-Shaair. He’s only had one season with over 400 snaps (2021), and he has to keep his missed tackle rate below 10% to be a viable and reliable fantasy option. With the Titans’ amazing D-line playing in front of him, there is no reason that AL-Shaair shouldn’t surpass the 100-tackle mark once again. The Titans only signed him to a one-year prove-it deal, but the fact that they have brought in absolutely no one through the draft or free agency tells me they are putting all their eggs in his basket, and so should you as a fantasy option.
