Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds for IDP

Week 8 has come and gone as quickly as any 8 week stretch in the NFL that I can remember.  Take into account Covid, irregular seasons among the other sports, or maybe the fact that we here at Fantasy In Frames are putting out content daily, but nonetheless, the halfway point has come and gone!

As I mentioned last week, if you are reading this, there is a good chance that you are hot and heavy in the throes of a passionate playoff run.  If that is the case, let me be Al Green and help you seduce the Week 9 Waiver Wire.  Let’s Stay Together and help win a Championship!

Defensive Lineman

Stephon Tuitt

Tuitt had the best game of his career in Week 8.  While I do not to encourage people to make waiver wire adds based on career performances, there are a couple more pieces to this puzzle.  First, and probably should be last, is that they play the hapless Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.  Each week the Cowboys continue to hemorrhage points to opposing defensive lines and the Steelers might be the most ferocious of the bunch.  While the ‘Boys may have gotten back Zack Martin and Joe Looney, the outside pressure of TJ Watt and Bud Dupree should mean that Tuitt is going to live in the backfield again in Week 9.

Montez Sweat

I mentioned Sweat back in the Week 7 waiver wire article.  At the time, he was 14% rostered, and as a result of the BYE week, his % has dropped to under 10, so there is an even better buying opportunity.  I would be a little foolish not to mention that as a result of the last recommendation, all he did was go out and put up 17.75 points against that Cowboys offensive line.  This is not only a one-week pickup as he gets the luxury of facing off against the Giants, Lions, Bengals, and the Cowboys over the next 4 weeks.  Look at this opportunity to buy any of the WFT defensive front.

Carlos Dunlap

I mentioned Dunlap last week in this column with the anticipation that he was going to be traded to a team that the situation might not look as bleak.  I guess I was right.  Dunlap got traded to a Seattle team that was in need an effective edge rusher, considering their leader on the D-line only has 2 sacks and rank 27th overall with 9 sacks.  Dunlap has been one of the better pass rushers, but became disgruntled when he started losing snap share to others.  This week the Seahawks travel to Buffalo to face the Bills in what should be a high scoring game.  While I do not expect this to be the game that Dunlap registers multiple sacks, I am also looking ahead to the week 12, 13, and 14 when they face the Eagles, Giants, and Jets.

Linebacker

Christian Kirksey

I mentioned Kirksey last week also!  I notice that the rostered percentage didn’t move!  The buying window is closing, make sure to get in.  While he has been activated to return to practice, there is no guarantee he plays this week, but considering the play of the LB’s in last weeks game vs Minn, one would assume that they want to get him back as soon as possible.  This week, the Packers take on the 49ers, who just last week game up 26.75 fantasy points to Bobby Wagner!

Neville Hewitt

Neville Hewitt has quietly turned in a good season for the Jets.  He currently ranks 8th amongst LB in BOTH solo and assisted tackles.  Add in the fact that Avery Williamson was traded to the Steelers, and there are potentially even more tackle opportunities for Hewitt.  Honestly, it doesn’t hurt at all that the Jets are so inept an offense that the defense is constantly on the field.

Dre Greenlaw

Greenlaw had posted 3 straight double-digit fantasy weeks prior to the news that Kwon Alexander was being traded to the Saints.  This news just guarantees that Greenlaw should see nearly 100% of the snaps alongside Fred Warner!  This week the 49ers will face the likely pass-heavy Packers, considering that they are down to Tyler Ervin or Dexter Williams at RB if Aaron Jones doesn’t return.  Posting 6 tackles or more in 4 straight games, the big ticket games are likely to come in weeks 14 and 15 when they face the Football Team and the Cowboys!

T.J. Edwards

After missing 3 weeks with a hamstring injury, Edwards returned to the field and had himself a day!  Prior to the game, to the utter thrill of Michael Bower of the Dynasty Rewind show, Nate Gerry was placed on I/R!  In turn, Edwards played a season-high 75% of the snaps and contributed with 12 total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. The Eagles are on a BYE this week, so if you don’t have a deep bench or the roster composition to grab and stash, you might have to wait until next week.  Looking ahead to week 10, the Eagles will face the New York Giants, who allow opposing LB’s to score the 7th most fantasy points.

Defensive Back

Rayshawn Jenkins

Rayshawn Jenkins has quietly emerged as a legit DB threat among IDP leagues.  Jenkins has played in 100% of the snaps since Week 3 and has recorded at least 7 tackles in the past 4 of 5 games.  Add in the 2 passes defended and the INT in week 8 and he has been the DB 14 since week 3.  Jenkins will look to bring his hard-hitting style against the run-heavy Raiders in Week 9.

Daniel Sorenson

Sorenson, who wasn’t widely considered an IDP option entering the season, has quickly emerged onto the DB landscape.  Having accumulated nearly as many tackles in the past 3 weeks (23) and he did in the first 6 games (24), Sorenson is quietly near the top of the DB scoring leaders.  Seemingly all over the field, Sorenson has contributed across the board with 9 tackles in back-to-back games, 2 INT’s, 2 passed defended, a forced fumble and a Def TD.  Andy Reid has given Sorenson his vote of confidence to play all over the field in order to make big splash plays, and so should you!

Thank You for reading.  Please remember this.  No matter what the outcome of today’s election is, try to remember that we as a fantasy football community should always pick each other up.  Fantasy Football for many, including myself, is a retreat from some of the chaos that the world surrounds us with.  Enjoy this beautiful game…we only have a few more weeks of it!  Now go out there and crush it!
