Week 2 Fantasy Recap

My. God. All those injuries.

Fear not, folks we will cover how to handle all those injury dilemmas in our 4-EYES On The Waiver Wire articles coming out on Tuesday. For now, let’s take a look at some notable fantasy performances from Week 2 of the NFL season and see what they can tell us about future performances going forward

Quarterback: Gardner Minshew

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 23.5 22.1

Another week went by for Gardner Minshew and along with it came another fantastic fantasy football as well as real football performance! In week 2, Minshew ranked 5th in passing yards with 339, 5th in TDs, and was 5th in passing attempts. What’s even more impressive was his passer rating when under pressure, which ranked 5th among quarterbacks. I, like many of you, might be shocked to learn that the Jaguars as a pass-blocking unit rank 5th in the NFL. Considering the departure of Leonard Fournette and opposing teams theoretically wanting to make this Jaguars offense more one dimensional, this offense has been clicking on all cylinders to start off the season. Facing a Dolphins team in Week 3 that ranks 26th in pass-rushing, look for Gardner to maintain his fantasy point per game average and then some this week.

Running Back: Joshua Kelley

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 11.3 11.6
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 12.3 12.1
PPR 13.3 12.6

In Week 2, while rookie Joshua Kelley was outperformed by teammate Austin Ekeler in fantasy points scored, it was Kelley that dominated rushing attempts with 23, which was third-best in the NFL. Not only that but in his second outing as a pro, Kelley had a higher touch % and utility % in this Chargers offense all while barely being out-snapped by Ekeler 47 to 43. Remember folks, VOLUME IS KING IN FANTASY FOOTBALL. Going up against a Panthers team in Week 3 that has given up the most fantasy points to the running back position on the season you should feel pretty, pretty confident inserting Kelley into your FLEX spot this week.

Wide Receiver: John Brown

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 14.2 13.6
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 16.2 16.1
PPR 18.2 18.6

Smoke has been on FIRE this season…..see what I did there?! 😉

John “Smokey” Brown in Week 2, despite being out-targeted by fellow WR Stefon Diggs 13-7, still was able to rack up 82 receiving yards and 1 TD on the day. Anyone who watched the game saw it was Diggs who had a higher YAC than Brown, but it was Brown who had a higher average depth of target or aDOT on the team with 20.3 yards. Given the increase in passing volume 3rd year QB Josh Allen is putting on display this season with a Week 2 QB ranking of 3rd overall in quarterback aDOT it’s no wonder “Smoke” found as much success as he did. Going up against Rams team in Week 3 that will likely see DB Jalen Ramsey line up across from Diggs be prepared for Brown to put up another successful fantasy performance this week!

Tight End: Noah Fant

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 13.7 13.9
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 15.7 16.2
PPR 17.7 18.4

In Week 2, with all of his fellow receiving options dropping around him like flies, Noah Fant put up another fantastic performance with 4 receptions for 57 yards and 1 TD against one of the more stingier defenses in the NFL. With the news coming out today of Courtland Sutton’s season-ending knee injury combined with the fact that he’s out-snapped all other receiving options on the Broncos offense this season look for Fant to be the primary focal point of this passing attack going forward this season making him a MUST start week in and week out.

FANTASYPROS IDP SCORING RUBRIC

Defensive Lineman/Edge Rusher: Mario Addison

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FantasyPros 9.75 11.1

Talk about a great investment on the defensive side of the ball for the Buffalo Bills. Despite being 10th on the team in snap %, Addison was second on the team in sack % & 4th in QB hit % as well as leads the team in sacks on the season with 2. However, despite this performance, playing volume isn’t on his side, and with how well the offense is clicking and the team is doing overall I doubt you can rely on this consistent type of production from him going forward. That being said, WOOOO, what a story he has been so far this season.

Defensive Back: Jordan Fuller

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FantasyPros 10.5 10.1

It has become abundantly clear that Jordan Fuller has taken over as the lead free safety in the Rams secondary, taking over for incumbent starter Taylor Rapp. Outsnapping Rapp 71-17 in Week 2, Fuller had the highest tackling % of all defensive backs playing 20 snaps or more on the Rams, turning in 5 solo tackles & 4 assisted tackles. Expect this trend to continue given his efficiency and high snap percentage thus far this season. If you’re thin at DB chances are you can still get Fuller on your waiver wire this week. I’d highly recommend you do so.

Linebacker: Micah Kiser

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FantasyPros 25.7 19.2

Taking over for Corey Littleton, Kiser has been on a rampage this season. On Sunday he exploded in term of production against the Eagles with 11 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 1 PD, and 1 forced fumble. Kiser ranked 3rd among linebackers in the NFL on Sunday in tackle % and 1st in snap %. With this level of production Kiser has the makings of becoming the LB1, overall, on the season. Facing a run-heavy Bills team in Week 4 look for Kiser to continue his rampage of terror against opposing offenses this week.
