Waiver Wire Adds for Week 8

We are already six weeks into the NFL season, yet there is still value on the waiver wire. Here is your guide for who are the MAJOR Waiver Wire Adds in Week 8. For a more comprehensive list, check out my waiver wire rankings here.

QBs

  • Daniel Jones (New York Giants) – Consensus Rostership: 34.4%, Week 8 Matchup: Seattle Seahawks
    • The Ravens were supposed to be the toughest matchup for the Giants, and they won that game. Daniel Jones might have the easiest schedule for a 6-1 QB (Seahawks, BYE, Texans, Lions). QB2 lock.

  • Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh Steelers) – Consensus Rostership: 11.5%, Philadelphia Eagles
    • Pickett will more than likely keep his starting job over Trubisky. His connection with fellow rookie George Pickens warrants low-end QB2 value for Pickett in deeper leagues.

  • Justin Fields (Justin Fields) – Consensus Rostership: 28.7%, Week Matchup: Dallas Cowboys
  • From the eye test, Fields might be a top 5 running QB in the NFL (6th best PFF run grade among all QBs). Also winning big against the Patriots defense helps too.

RBs

  • Gus Edwards (Baltimore Ravens) – Consensus Rostership: 28.1%, Week 8 Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    • Starting RB for the Ravens, 16 attempts for 66 yards and 2 TDs. Also a top 10 PFF offense grade (RBs with at least 16 attempts). Should be the top waiver wire pickup.

  • Tyler Allgeier (Atlanta Falcons) – Consensus Rostership: 35.2%, Week 8 Matchup: Carolina Panthers
  • Only Falcons RB to see at least 10 attempts since Week 4. Cordarelle Patterson is out a least another week or two and the Panthers give up the 10th most fantasy points to RBs.

  • Isiah Pacheco (Kansas City Chiefs) – Consensus Rostership 32.5%, Week 8 Matchup: BYE
    • He may not have looked like it but he wasn’t “named” the starter for no reason. Your league mates may very well pass Pacheco up since the Chiefs go on a BYE in week 8. Go against the crowd, pick up Isiah Pacheco

WRs

  • Marquez Valdez-Scantling (Kansas City Chiefs) – Consensus Rostership: 44.9%, Week 8 Matchup: BYE
    • Mahomes may have found his deep ball guy. MVS has the 2nd most yards per reception and 11th highest ADOT (average depth of target) among WRs with at least 35 targets. MVS is one of the cheapest guys in this KC offense you can get right now.

  • Wan’Dale Robinson (New York Giants) – Consensus Rostership: 21.3%, Week 8 Matchup: Seattle Seahawks
  • Until Kadarius Toney gets back, Robinson is the Giants’ WR1. He currently leads the team in reception percentage, offense and receiving PFF grades, yards per route run, and passer rating when targeted.

  • Garrett Wilson (New York Jets) – Consensus Rostership: 62.4%, Week 8 Matchup: New England Patriots
    • Elijah Moore is requesting a trade, Breece Hall is out for the season, this may be a great opportunity for Wilson to see more work. He currently leads all WRs on the team in targets, PFF grades for offense and receiving, and yards after catch and is second on the team in yards per route run and passer rating when targeted (both behind Corey Davis).

TEs

  • Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins) – Consensus Rostership: 42.5%, Week 8 Matchup: Detroit Lions
    • Gesicki has been in trade talks with the deadline coming up soon. He could provide great value to a team in need of an athletic TE. Miami has no need for him with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle leading the receiving game for the Dolphins. Gesicki is the 95th+ percentiles in every metric on PlayerProfiler (absolute stud).

  • Irv Smith Jr. (Minnesota Vikings) – Consensus Rostership: 36.9%, Week 8 Matchup: Arizona Cardinals
    • It would difficult for Smith to not see fantasy production in a top 10 passing offense in the NFL. Smith already has 5 red zone targets this season, tied for 10th among all TEs. With a shallow position such as TE, Irv Smith Jr could make a name for himself.

  • Harrison Bryant (Cleveland Browns) – Consensus Rostership: 0.1%, Week 8 Matchup: Cincinnati Bengals
    • This pick is more because of David Njoku missing time. Njoku had the 8th highest target share among all TEs, 8 targets coming in the red zone (tied for 4th most among TEs). Bryant probably won’t see all of this work but at least a decent chunk of it.

DSTs

  • Jacksonville Jaguars – Consensus Rostership: 13.8%, Week 8 Matchup: Denver Broncos
    • Whether Russell Wilson or Brett Rypien plays, the Jags defense should you enough points for your fantasy lineup.

  • Indianapolis Colts – Consensus Rostership: 58.9%, Week 8 Matchup: Washington Commanders
    • Colts are letting up the 11th fewest fantasy points total this season. The Commanders really aren’t anything special. Indianapolis should be a good plug-in week 8.

  • Cincinnati Bengals – Consensus Rostership: 39.6%, Week 8 Matchup: Cleveland Browns
    • On the same note, the Bengals are allowing the 9th fewest fantasy points to opposing teams this season. A surprisingly good defense this year only allowing 11.5 fantasy points to QBs (5th lowest).
