As I wrote in one of my 4-EYED PREVIEWS a few weeks back success in any form is dependent on taking advantage of opportunities at the right time, space, and place. After this weekend I need to amend that statement a little bit:
“Success OR failure in any form is dependent on taking or not taking advantage of opportunities at the right time, space, and place.”
Make sense, right? So how does this pertain to fantasy football?
It’s gotten to the point where certain players have reached a level of predictability when it relates to them constantly taking OR not taking advantage of their opportunities when it comes to getting you fantasy points each week. Here are two examples of what I’m talking about:
- No matter the time, space, and place Jameis Winston is not a quarterback you can trust to start any week this season as his unpredictability makes him unstartable
- On the flip side Chris Godwin, of the Buccaneers, is a player you SHOULD always be starting each week because he has shown that he takes advantage of all of his opportunities no matter the matchup
Below is a list of a few players that have consistently shown that they have been able to take advantage of their opportunities at the right time, space, and place this season!
Quarterback: Kyler Murray and this “Air Raid” offense has not disappointed when it’s counted
- 2nd in rushing yards for a QB with 238
- 3rd in deep-ball completion %
- 7th in fantasy points per game with 21.2
- 9th in passing yards with 1,664
Against defenses ranking 13th, 26th, & 31st Kyler Murray has posted 21.6, 25.4, and 28.8 fantasy points respectively. This week he faces a Giants team that ranks 27th in total defense and dead last in pass coverage. Murray is a must-start this week.
Running Back: Josh Jacobs will look to shred some cheese this weekend
When given a heavy workload this season rookie Josh Jacobs has shown that he is deserving of being the RB1 on your roster thus freeing up a potential flex spot if you had been inserting him into your lineup as one. When having over 20 attempts/game Jacobs has averaged 25.8 fantasy points. With the Raiders likely without their top receiving option in Tyrell Williams this week, Oakland is more than likely going to have to focus on their running game making Jacobs a prime RB1 candidate for the week as he faces a Packers team which ranks 30th in run defense.
Wide Receiver: Larry Fitzgerald will add another H.O.F performance under his belt this weekend
Leading the Cardinals in targets this season and averaging 12 fantasy points per game, Larry Fitzgerald has a juicy matchup at cornerback this week as he squares off against Giants slot cornerback Grant Haley which Pro Football Focus has rated their 2nd best WR/CB matchup of the week. As I mentioned earlier the Giants rank dead last in pass coverage. Expect him to be targeted often this week and to put up monster fantasy numbers for your team.
Tight End: Darren Fells has plenty of TD upside this week against the Colts
Tied for the league lead at the tight end position in TDs, Darren Fells has proven to be one of the best tight ends in terms of fantasy production when within the red zone. This week Fells will matchup against Khari Willis in what should be a favorable matchup for Fells from an offensive perspective as well as for Willis in terms of an IDP play. When playing against favorable coverage matchups this season Fells has averaged 12.8 fantasy points per game. Start him this week.
IDP Of The Week
Defensive Back: Jordan Poyer will be one of the top producing IDP safeties this week
Fresh off the Bills bye week Jordan Poyer will look to destroy any and all offensive weaponry that the Dolphins may have this week as he’ll face a Dolphins team that allowed fellow strong safety Landon Collins to rack up 10 solo tackles in week 6. On the season Poyer leads the team in solo tackles, sacks, sack yards, and forced fumbles among defensive backs. Look for him to pad his stats!
