Those Were A Lot Of Fantasy Points

As the title of this article put it, there were a LOT of fantasy points scored this past weekend and if you had even one of the following players on your roster they likely helped win you your matchup…unless you’re like me and kept one of them on your bench and saw victory slip through your fingers:

As I do every week my job is to bring to your attention players that were of tremendous value or lack thereof from the following week and how inserting them into your starting rosters can potentially help or hurt you going forward this season.

**DISCLAIMER**

As always when discussing fantasy point production we’re referring to 0.5 PPR scoring.  IDP fantasy point scoring is solely based on our very own IDP scoring rubric which will be presented to you when we discuss IDPs later on in the article.

Here are my 4-EYED OBSERVATIONS from Week 5!

Quarterback: As a football fan, as a human being I was, as you should be, very proud of Teddy Bridgewater’s performance against the Bucs!

A few years removed from a horrific leg injury that almost cost him the use of his leg, Teddy Bridgewater put up one of the best performances of his career on Sunday:

Next week Teddy will face the Jaguars who rank 23rd in the league in pass coverage and 18th in the league in pass rushing. Furthermore, the Saints rank 2nd in the league in pass blocking making for another advantageous opportunity for Bridgewater to post respectable streaming QB numbers on Sunday.

Running Back: Matt Breida is an RB2 going forward this season!

From the 49ers very first play from scrimmage on Monday Night Football we ALL saw just how much of a fantasy asset Matt Breida is in the 49ers offense. For the week Breida was:

He did all that on just 14 total touches. The 49ers running game ranks 4th in the NFL, 3rd in run blocking, and despite being out-touched in terms of rushing attempts by Tevin Coleman it was Breida that was the more efficient running back on that offense.

Next week, the 49ers will have their first divisional matchup versus the L.A. Rams, who on the season, rank 13th against the run. While you shouldn’t expect the same amount of production from Bredia next week you SHOULD expect him to be the most productive given his usage in both the rushing and receiving game. Fire him up as your RB2 next week and rest of the season!

Receivers: Chris Godwin is #1 on the season in fantasy points per game and should be your #1 WR going forward AND Gerald Everett is starting to make the case for top 10 TE rest of season

I shouldn’t have to say much about Chris Godwin, should I?!

In week 5 he posted:

On the season he’s posted:

On a pass-heavy offense like the Buccanneers whose receiving corps ranks 5th in the NFL, no matter who the opponent is Godwin looks to be a WR1 going forward this season. Treat him as such

As far as Gerald Everett is concerned, remember the old adage that inexperienced QBs rely on their tight end more so than any other receiving position? Well, it looks like Jared Goff has regressed to the level of an inexperienced quarterback based on his performances in recent weeks. In week 5, Everett posted a position leading 136 receiving yards, was 2nd at tight end in fantasy points scored with 17.1, 1st in targets among all tight ends with 7, and most importantly is only rostered in 3.4% of ESPN leagues. He’s definitely a streaming option this week versus San Fran given the lack of TE depth in the league and potentially a viable starter week in and week out.

NOW as promised last week here is my doubled IDP content from week 5. Below is the Fantasy In Frames IDP scoring rubric to which we calculate all of our fantasy point-scoring from. In 2020, you can expect more public leagues that specialize in IDPs from us!

Defensive Back: The Texans secondary certainly lit it up on Sunday versus the Falcons!

Jahleel Addae went off for the Texans against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at strong safety posting 11 total tackles on the day (10 solo/1 assisted). Not bad for a backup strong safety. While his performance on Sunday was inspiring in week 5, barring an injury to starting strong safety Tashaun Gipson, you shouldn’t expect the same kind of production from him in week 6. Speaking of Gipson, he played in more of a coverage role this past week posting 1 interception for a TD, 1 pass defensed, 2 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackles. On the season Gipson has averaged 8.2 fppg and while his week 5 16.3 fpts are an outlier on the season given the inflation of the TD, Gipson has been the most steady in terms of fantasy production at safety on this team and could be in for a similar role next week against Kansas City.

Defensive Lineman: Nick Bosa lived up to his namesake on MNF and Yannick Ngakoue did his thing against Carolina on Sunday

Nick Bosa put up quite the performance against this struggling Browns offense on Monday Night Football in week 5:

The Rams rank 30th in pass blocking. I mean…c’mon. Being rostered in only 12.5% of IDP rosters on ESPN he is worthy of a waiver claim and start in week 6.

Yannick Ngakoue (#LETSGOTERPS) had 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 3 solo tackles, and 1 stuff on the day against a run-heavy offense in Carolina. Yannick is a streaky player in terms of IDP performances so I wouldn’t put too much stock in him going forward this week. That being said I couldn’t help but reward my fellow Terp by adding him to my observations this week!

Linebackers: Brians Burns lived up to his 1st round billing and Uchenna Nwosu made a name for himself on Sunday

If you’ve read my weekly injury report over at IDPguys.com you would have known that Burns has been battling a wrist injury that has held him out of practice, either completely or in a limited fashion, the past two weeks, BUT in week 5 Brian Burns let loose forcing and recovering a fumble, posting 1 sack and fumble return for a TD, and had 3 total tackles. In week 6 he’ll face a Bucs team that ranks 21st in pass blocking making for an enticing matchup for this IDP rookie.

Uchenna Nwosu led all Chargers linebackers with 7 total tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 10 sack yards, 2 QB hits, and 1 forced fumble on Sunday. While Thomas Davis has been the most productive OLB on the Chargers this season Nwosu hasn’t been that far behind in production. Keep an eye on his production going forward this season as he could, potentially, be a goodbye week fill in. Do not start him until you see more consistency out of him!
