Week 6: There Goes That Man!

There. Goes. That. Man.

Four words when put together emphasize a person’s greatness and contribution to not only their NFL teams, but OUR fantasy football teams. This past weekend’s slate of action brought a LOT of memories that were worthy of using that expression, but were they just flashes in the pan moments or premonitions of things to come.

LET’S FIND OUT!

Here is my 4-EYED RECAP FROM WEEK 6

Quarterback: Carson Wentz

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FanDuel Scoring 29.4 20.7

Dating back to Week 13 in 2019, Carson Wentz has averaged 20.6 fantasy points per game despite having any of his primary receiving options healthy during that stretch with the exception of Zach Ertz. On Sunday, he led a masterful performance posting 213 yards, 2TDs, 59 yards rushing, 29.4 fantasy points against one of the best defenses in the NFL. I feel like many of us in the fantasy football industry have been low on Carson Wentz for a LONG time due to the lack of receiving options available to him in recent memory. However, should we be shocked at how well he’s been doing in 2020?

I’m, actually, not. He’s been able to do so much with so little dating back to last season, so this really shouldn’t come as a shock to everyone. However, Wentz faces, surprisingly, a tough test on defense this week facing a Giants team allowing only the 13th most passing yards per game and on average 16.7 fantasy points per game. That being said if there was any QB in the league right now that I’d have faith in to exceed expectations it would be Wentz.

Running Back: D’Andre Swift

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 24.3 10.6
FanDuel (0.5 PPR) 25.8 12.2
Draft Kings (PPR) 30.3 14.4

So, I’m surprised but I’m not surprised.

D’Andre Swift was heralded as one of the best running backs to come out of college in 2020, but many were concerned about his landing spot in Detroit with incumbent Kerryon Johnson still there. Things got even hairier in the Motor City when the Lions signed Adrian Peterson and gave HIM a majority of the rushing work on that offense to start the season. Things were not looking good heading into Week 6 in terms of expectations for Swift given the Lions were coming off of their bye week and Adrian Peterson was looking like he would continue being the starter as no indication was given during the week that there would be some sort of change in the running back pecking order. If there was any hope for Swift to become fantasy relevant he would just have to flat outperform Peterson to take the reigns of this backfield and on Sunday he did!

Against the Jaguars we saw Swift not only had more offensive snaps than Peterson, granted only by two, but he also outperformed Peterson in rushing yardage with 116 yards to 40 AND, most importantly, in fantasy points. Both are fantastic signs for Swift’s second-half usage throughout the remainder of the season. An increased involvement in the passing game this week and we might be telling you to FLEX Swift each week going forward.

Wide Receiver: Justin Jefferson

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 30.6 12.6
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 35.1 14.6
Draft Kings (PPR) 42.6 18.4

In last week’s 4-EYED STARTS & SITS, I mentioned that fantasy managers shouldn’t be concerned with Justin Jefferson’s dud of a fantasy performance in Week 5. Well, I hope you listened.

Jefferson, in Week 6 against a woeful Atlanta Falcons team, posted 166 yards receiving (1st among all receivers) and 2 TDs (1st among all receivers) on 11 targets (4th among all WRs).

Among all active wide receivers, both, Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson rank in the Top 12 in fantasy points per game in 1/2 PPR scoring. Both have over 35 targets on the season. Jefferson isn’t going away, folks. Those who have him, be thankful. Those who don’t, pay up for him!

Tight End: Rob Gronkowski

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
Non-PPR 13.6 4.6
FanDuel (0.5PPR) 16.3 6.0
Draft Kings (PPR) 18.3 7.5

Toot. Toot!

That was the sound of the hype train leaving the station last week at Fantasy In Frames, and in Week 6 Rob Gronkowski didn’t disappoint.

Posting 78 receiving yards on 8 targets and a TD, Gronk was in the Top 5 in yardage and targets, 6th in 1/2 PPR fantasy points scored. Over the past three weeks we’ve seen his targets go from 3 to 6 to 8 in Week 6. He’s FINALLY becoming a focal
point for Tom Brady in this offense, and given the shallow nature of the TE position in fantasy football you should count your lucky stars you have him on your rosters. THAT being said they’re still a LOT of receiving options on that team that are coming back for injuries, therefore, I’d be concerned about an increase in target volume going forward. Consider his Week 6 performance his ceiling.

As we do every week, we reference IDP fantasy point scoring using FantasyPros IDP scoring rubric!

Edge Rusher: Khalil Mack

Format Fantasy Points Scored Avg FPPG
FantasyPros 12.5 9.9

Our very own @natemarcum , President of the Khalil Mack fan club this preseason, must have jumping for joy seeing Khalil Mack’s real football AND fantasy football in Week 6!

In back-to-back weeks, Mack has posted double-digit fantasy points, this week on 4 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 sack. Now, while I’m happy for Mack managers, for me, he needs to prove a little more consistency before I’d consider him an every week starter. Tread carefully, folks!
Defensive Back: Budda Baker

Format Fantasy Points Score Avg FPPG
FantasyPros 27.0 15.1

GOD DAMN, what a performance on Monday Night Football. I, believe, my tweet last night perfectly sums up what I think of Baker and IDP in general…

7 solo tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 27.5 fantasy points later and Budda Baker proved without a shadow of a doubt that he should be considered the DB1 ROS (rest of season).

If someone tries to acquire Baker from you in a trade, demand a ransom!

Linebacker: Roquan Smith

I like Roquan Smith. I was able to get him to autograph my Bears chrome mini helmet for me a few years ago. Granted, I paid for the autograph but that’s besides the point.

Given his tumultuous off the season issues in 2019, I was REALLY hoping he would turn things around both on and off the field. Therefore, you can imagine how happy I was to see him rank in the Top 10 in total tackles on the weekend with 7 solo/5 assisted. Generally, I like seeing a higher solo:assisted ratio, but seeing his Top 12 finish in fantasy points scored with 17.8 put a smile on my face. What puts a BIGGER smile on my face is his being the LB5 in fppg with 15.1 on the season.

Keep starting Smith week in and week out going forward!
