The Washington Commanders Re-Sign Zach Ertz: 2025 Fantasy Football Implications

Fantasy Football Breaking New: Zach Ertz to The Commanders | Fantasy In Frames

The Washington Commanders have re-signed tight end Zach Ertz to a one-year, $6.25 million deal, keeping the veteran pass catcher in Washington for at least one more season.

This move makes sense for both sides, as it was seemingly either retire or go back to Washington for Ertz. In 2024, Ertz proved to be a reliable pass catcher in a high-powered offense and showcased himself as a safety blanket for star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels throughout the year. Let us explore how this move will impact fantasy football in 2025.

For fantasy football in 2024 though, Ertz provided fantasy managers with nice production during the second half of the season, becoming a good, reliable weekly option in a tight end landscape that was mostly lackluster last year. As for Zach Ertz’s fantasy outlook in 2025, the longtime NFL tight end likely will not be repeating his production from 2024, as he will have more target competition in Washington’s offense going forward. Over the last couple of weeks, the Commanders have added former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel via trade to pair with star receiver Terry McLaurin, who is undoubtedly an alpha wide receiver in his own right. So at best, Ertz is the third option in Washington’s passing game, and that is not even mentioning having a quarterback who runs quite a bit, which naturally lessens the team’s passing volume.

Additionally, Washington will most likely look to add a talented receiver or two through free agency and/or the draft, which will suppress Ertz’s fantasy value even more. While it is good that Ertz already knows the system and what to expect in Washington, fantasy managers should not be too thrilled for his outlook in 2025, as the offense around him has changed and evolved in recent weeks.
