The Seattle Seahawks Sign Cooper Kupp: 2025 Fantasy Football Implications

Fantasy Football Breaking New: Cooper Kupp to The Seahawks | Fantasy In Frames

After being released by the Los Angeles Rams, wide receiver Cooper Kupp has found a new home, as the veteran pass catcher has signed with the Seattle Seahawks on a three-year, $45 million deal.

This is a significant commitment to an aging receiver who has been frequently injured over the last few years, which shows that Seattle really wanted Kupp. On the surface level, this move might seem like a good fit on paper, but for 2025 fantasy football purposes, it is a bit more complicated.

Cooper Kupp’s 2025 fantasy outlook is a bit complicated, mainly because of what the Seattle Seahawks already have on their roster. While it is true that the Seahawks desperately needed more help at wide receiver after moving on from both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett last week, Cooper Kupp may not be the answer fantasy managers were hoping for. Breakout receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba does his best work from the slot, and Cooper Kupp also does his best work from the slot. In 2024, per the Fantasy Points Data Suite, Smith-Njigba ran 83.9% of his routes from the slot, and Kupp ran 64.8% of his routes from the slot. One of the two will have to take a lot more snaps on the outside in this offense in 2025, which will inevitably lead to a dip in production for somebody.

That somebody will most likely be Kupp, as he is much older and much more injury prone than Smith-Njigba at this point in their respective careers. While it is good for fantasy managers that Sam Darnold has shown that he can support two fantasy relevant receivers in an offense, Smith-Njigba and Kupp have too similar skill sets to the point where it might not matter. For 2025, fantasy managers should not be “scared off” by the addition of Cooper Kupp to this offense, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba should still be viewed as a top-tier fantasy option. In regards to Cooper Kupp himself, I personally would not bother with him next year. Sure, if Kupp falls to the point where I have to take him, then I will do it. But generally speaking, I would not mess around with him in drafts next year at this point in his career.
