The Minnesota Vikings Re-Sign Aaron Jones: 2025 Fantasy Football Implications

Fantasy Football Breaking New: Aaron Jones to The Vikings | Fantasy In Frames

The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed running back Aaron Jones to a two-year, $20 million deal, tying the veteran back to the franchise for at least a couple more seasons. Let us explore how this move will impact fantasy football in 2025.

$10 million per season is a significant number for an aging running back prone to injuries in his career. Still, it shows that Minnesota is again committed to featuring Jones in their offense in the future. As for Aaron Jones’ 2025 fantasy outlook, it is a bit tricky right now. The Vikings will likely have a new quarterback under center next year, (whether J.J. McCarthy or otherwise), and it looks like the team will make a significant investment at the running back position in the NFL Draft in April. So there are a bunch of unknowns right now, plus Jones is not a bell cow anymore. Those days are well behind him. Per the Fantasy Points Data Suite, Aaron Jones averaged 14.4 fantasy points per game in 2024, which is an ok number, but probably not one that is repeatable with all the changes coming to Minnesota’s offense in 2025.

Aaron Jones should still be viewed as a mid-tier running back option in 2025, but not someone that fantasy managers should confidently start week in and week out during the season. There are just too many unknowns surrounding the team and player right now, making it a tough situation to read currently.
