4-EYED IDP TEAM PREVIEW: NEW YORK JETS (2021)

In this second part of our Jets 4-EYED TEAM PREVIEW, we’re going to be covering the Jets’ IDPs that you should consider rostering for the 2021 fantasy football season.

MAN!

I gotta be honest there is NOT a lot going well here from an IDP perspective with “Gang Green”. They let their most productive tackler, Neville Hewitt, walk out the door in free agency. Their starting strong safety that they got in the Jamal Adams trade, Bradley McDougald, isn’t even on the team anymore. HIS replacement is on the PUP list to start training camp, and linebacker Blake Cashman, who played well in 5 games back in 2019, has missed 21 games in the past two seasons.

That being said, if you look closely enough, there are SOME players that can serve you well this season from a fantasy perspective as you navigate your way to a fantasy football title.

Who are they?

Defensive Line

Quinnen Williams (Current ADP: DL29)

Finishing the final five games with four sacks (7 on the season) and one forced fumble Williams, in 2020, finished as the DL11 in fantasy points per game with 13.7. Look, I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I would not draft Williams in your IDP drafts, and chances are you can find better options on your waiver wire, especially with more outside linebackers qualifying at DLs in most fantasy football platforms.

So why waste all this digital ink for a player who had a decent end to their year last season? A player who is currently on the physically unable to perform list as the Jets start training camp? A player you should probably not draft?!

Simple, I needed to give Jets fans SOME semblance of hope at the defensive line spot for fantasy football. I figured seeing SOMETHING written in this space would perk them up. I suppose, as I’m thinking about this as I’m typing it, that seeing a player listed here not being endorsed by this writer could probably make Jets fans more depressed than hopeful.

For THAT I apologize.

Linbacker

C.J. Mosely (Current ADP: LB44)

Having not played in the last 30 games, it’s understandable why you might be hesitant in drafting C.J. Mosley this year.

Let me tell you why I would burn a late-round pick on him this season.

In the past 4 out of the last 5 seasons played, Mosley has averaged 120.5 total tackles per year. To put that into perspective, 120.5 tackles on the season in 2020 would have him listed around players such as Tremaine Edmunds, Demario Davis, and Jordan Hicks. All three finished, in fantasy points per game, as solid LB2s/LB3s. Combine that with a defensive-minded head coach who coaches an aggressive style of defense and you have the makings of a player who, when healthy, could easily get you solid LB2 production with even some LB1 weeks spread in there over the course of a season due to his tackle upside alone. I wouldn’t draft him as my LB2, but rather my LB4. Low on the depth chart of your IDP fantasy roster, but with the potential of your LB4 having LB2 scoring upside sounds like a worthwhile gamble to me.

Defensive Back

Marcus Maye (Current ADP: DB43)

Maye had a breakout year last year in 2020 posting career highs in total tackles (88), passes defended (11), interceptions (2), forced fumbles (2), and fumble recoveries (2). For all intents and purposes, Maye WAS the defense for the Jets. Having been lifted off of the non-football injury list recently look for Maye to return to camp soon and ball out for a new contract extension. Solid DB3/DB4 value

That’s all for our Jets IDP coverage for today. All two players. Stay tuned later for our double coverage of another AFC East team tomorrow, the New England Patriots.
