IDP Waiver Wire Targets for Week 3 (2021)

Week 2 has come and gone in a blur!

With it came some incredible encore performances from some IDP stalwarts. While there were some incredible encores, there were also a couple of forgettable duds. As we have all learned, the sequel is usually not as good as the original, but in some instances, we have been impressed. I’m looking at you Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back, and Sharknado 2!

Here we are going into Week 3, and it is my job to decipher which of these potential blockbusters are ready to get their star on the IDP Waiver Wire Walk of Fame. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the IDP Waiver Wire Targets for Week 3.

A bit of a disclaimer, but with so many different platforms providing different roster percentages, I am going to focus on players available in more than 80% of leagues according to consensus Yahoo and ESPN, which you can find at FantasyPros.com.

All scoring will be according to IDP123, which you can find below.

Defensive Line

Jonathan Allen-Washington Football Team

Jonathan Allen has been an absolute monster thru the first two weeks of the season (23 FPPG). With 2 sacks in Week 2 vs NYG, he has eclipsed last years’ sack total. While projecting stability among Defensive Tackles in IDP is difficult, I just absolutely love the pressure that he is generating over the first couple of weeks. His 9 pressures are 3rd among all DL to date.

Washington travels to Buffalo to face the Bills and their seemingly porous offensive line. On the season, the Bills have allowed the 2nd most hurries and the 2nd most pressures among all Offensive Lines. With the constant attention being paid to Chase Young and Montez Sweat, it has been Allen who has benefited with the 3 sacks. Add in the fact that Allen has had a pretty stable 60 tackle floor for the past 3 seasons and I am happy to plugin for the next two weeks (@BUF/@ATL)

Gregory Rousseau-Buffalo Bills

When the Buffalo Bills selected Rousseau with the 30th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, they knew that they had a solid addition to their, already solid, defensive rotation. What they didn’t figure is that in only two weeks he was going to earn his way into significant snaps. Rousseau’s 79 snaps lead all DL for the BIlls.

Last week in a blowout win against the Dolphins, Rousseau tallied 5 tackles, 2 QB hits, 2 TFL, and the first 2 sacks of his young career. Looking ahead to Week 3, the BIlls will take on the Football Team, who will have to stay active to compete with the Bills’ offense. While it may be a little early to trust Rousseau week in and week out, the ceiling is very high for this young man.

Maxx Crosby-Las Vegas Raiders

After Week 1, it’s hard to imagine that Crosby is available in your league, but his percentage is still under 25%, and that is close enough for me to bang the drum. If you watched his performance against the Ravens, you know that Crosby’s engine doesn’t stop, and the potential for multiple sacks and turnovers is evident.

Looking ahead to Week 3, Crosby and the Raiders have one of the tastiest matchups on paper against the Dolphins. So far on the season, the Dolphins have allowed the most hurries, the most pressures, but yet have not allowed a sack. That all changes this week. We don’t know yet if Tua is going to play, but regardless, I see Crosby playing menace to whoever is under center. Just the fact that he possesses a 33% win rate is ridiculous. For reference, Myles Garret’s is 21%.

Linebacker

Nick Vigil-Minnesota Vikings

At this time, it is unknown if Anthony Barr will play in Week 3, but the odds are not in his favor. Nick Vigil has filled in admirably in Barr’s absence, averaging 28 FPPG. Last week against the Cardinals he returned an INT for a TD and chipped in 8 tackles. Vigil has played in all of the Vikings’ snaps so far and has been a great addition to that defense with 18 tackles (12 solos), 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 QB hit, an INT, and a TD.

The Vikings turn their attention to Seattle in Week 3. Pay attention to Barr’s health and if absent, plug and play Vigil. I see his filling the void left by Eric Wilson until Barr can return.

Logan Wilson-Cincinnati Bengals

Logan Wilson is a really good linebacker that not too many are talking about. He grades out, per PFF, as a top 10 LB with exceptional grades in Tackling and Coverage and plays every snap. While this may not necessarily translate to fantasy points, I think it is only a matter of time before we start to see Wilson enter the LB2 conversation. On the season, Wilson has 16 tackles (7-9 solo to assist ratio 😬). Not really known for his pass rush, his 11 total pass rushes rank in the top 20 among LB.

Logan Wilson and the Bengals will travel to Pittsburgh to face a Steelers team that has been hit by the injury bug early in the season. It remains to be seen if TJ Watt will miss any time. Regardless of his presence, the Bengals are going to look to put pressure on Big Ben, and I think it will be Wilson who takes advantage of the low aDOT for Ben and his WRs. Add in the increased work to Najee and I think we see another solid tackle floor week for Wilson.

Cole Holcomb-Washington Football Team

Cole Holcomb is well on his way to a career year for the Football Team. He has played in all 150 snaps on the season, wears the green dot, and currently leads the team in tackles (17). Last year, in 11 games, Holcomb had 72 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and an INT. With health, Holcomb should shatter those totals.

As with Jonathan Allen, Holcomb will turn his attention to the Bills in Week 3. Holcomb isn’t the world’s best coverage linebacker, which actually is a blessing in disguise for fantasy managers. Look for Holcomb to see plenty of targets from the pass-happy Bills and reach double-digit tackles.

Defensive Back

Mike Hilton-Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Hilton is playing significant snaps and giving us a glimpse back to his IDP glory days with the Steelers. Speaking of the Steelers, Hilton and crew will actually travel to the Steel City as a little revenge game narrative.

While a slot corner may not generally be the most targeted in IDP, this weeks’ matchup just screams DB1/DB2 upside. The Steelers target their slot receiver an average of 7 times per game, and Hilton would be the beneficiary.

Maybe not a long-term IDP piece, he can definitely fill in nicely for a Week 3 upside play!

Jordan Fuller-Los Angeles Rams

Jordan Fuller no longer has to battle for reps in LA, now that John Johnson III is gone. Fuller led the Rams in tackles in Week 2 and only trails Taylor Rapp by one for the team lead.

Fuller is going to have his hands “full” with the Buccaneers in Week 3. Considering the elevated tackle floor that he possesses, Fuller could be a solid addition for this week and moving forward. His 36 fantasy points on the season have him firmly in the DB1 conversation on this young season.
