Week 5 of the NFL season is here, and the bye weeks are upon us. Four teams are on bye this week: Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tennessee Titans.
You might need to go a little deeper in your lineups this week for some bye week fill-ins.
Injuries are continuing to devastate fantasy rosters all over the place, so make sure to get those players put on the IR and grab some players off of the waiver wire. Make sure to check out our Fantasy In Frames IDP waiver-wire article every week. Below are my educated guesses of players to Play and others to Fade for Week 5 of the NFL season. As we get more data, we get a better idea of who to lean on throughout the season.
As always I am going to give you some players I think could have a better week than expected or might have a worse game than predicted.
Here we go with my IDP Plays And Fades: Week 5 (2024)!
Defensive Linemen:
Plays
- Dayo Odeyingbo, DE Colts at Jaguars
- Now entering his fourth season, Odeyingbo is rounding into form. He suffered a torn Achilles before the 2021 NFL draft, which caused him to drop to late in the second round after a very good career at Vanderbilt.
- The Colts like to run a rotation on the defensive line, but injuries have devastated this group. Tyquan Lewis and Samson Ebukam are on the IR. Kwity Paye missed last week with an injury and might not play this week. The opportunity is there.
- Odeyingbo saw increased playing time in Week 4 against the Steelers with a 74.3% snap share. He used a 24.2% win rate and 21.2% pressure rate to record three tackles, one TFL, and 1.5 sacks. He should be on the field a lot against Jacksonville.
- Jared Verse, DE/EDGE Rams vs Packers
- The Vikings were able to put pressure all over the Packers and QB Jordan Love in Week 4, but were only able to get one sack. They did force Love into three interceptions though.
- Verse is seeing around 70% snap share this season. After getting a sack in his first NFL game, Verse doesn’t have one since. But he has looked good and graded well, despite having underwhelming fantasy numbers. Verse had a pass rush grade of 85.3 PFF pass rush grade with a 50% win rate and a 25% pressure rate. Verse is due to get to Love this week.
- Jonathan Cooper, DE Broncos vs Raiders
- The Raiders have given up 14 sacks so far this season. Cooper could be the next defensive end to take advantage. He’s playing an 80% snap share. He had a 17.7% win rate and 20.6% pressure rate in Week 4.
- He has 17 tackles, eight solo, with three sacks this season. Someone is getting home against the Raiders. I think Cooper has the best chance. You could also take a shot on DE Nic Bonitto.
Fades
- Tyree Wilson, DE Raiders at Broncos
- The Raiders have had a lot injuries on the defensive front this season. It looked like Wilson was going to move inside this season, but with injuries to superstar Maxx Crosby and a season-ending injury to Malcom Koonce, Wilson has been moved back to the edge.
- Wilson saw 71.2% of snaps in Week 4, which is enticing. He also had a decent win rate (21.4%) and pressure rate (17.9%) last week, but I’m not sure that carries over. The Broncos get rid of the ball quickly and haven’t given up a sack the last two weeks.
- Sam Hubbard, DE Bengals vs Ravens
- Hubbard has struggled this season. In Week 4, he had a 0% win rate and 0% pressure rate. He had two assisted tackles on 78.9% snap share.
- He has fallen off a cliff. He has 12 total tackles, only seven solo, and zero sacks this year. Now the Bengals get the Ravens offense, which is going to run the football. I don’t see the Bengals defensive line doing much in this game.
- George Karlaftis, DE Chiefs vs Saints
- The Saints are just not a good matchup this week for the defensive ends of the Chiefs. New Orleans has tried to get the ball out quickly this season. QB Derek Carr has only been sacked once pre game this season.
- Karlaftis has only one sack this season and doesn’t provide many tackles. He only has 10 tackles this season with six solos. Even though his snap share is well over 80% this season, I don’t think he gets home this week.
Linebackers:
Plays
- Kyle Van Noy, LB Ravens at Bengals
- Van Noy has been on an absolute tear lately. He was LB6 last week with 20 fantasy points, and has six sacks in the last three games despite playing less than a 50% snap share. He has been able to produce in limited play with a 92.5 pass rush grade and a 21.1% pressure rate last week.
- Van Noy also has seven solo tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defensed this season. It’s his 12th year in the league, but he is already on pace to exceed his career-high nine sacks he had last season for Baltimore.
- Chad Muma, LB Jacksonville vs Colts
- Starting LBs Devin Lloyd and Foyesade Oluokun are banged up. With both players out in Week 4, Muma had a 95% snap share, which was the highest we have seen from any Jaguars LB this season.
- Muma had eight tackles in Week 4 against the Texans and should have an opportunity to make more tackles against the Colts, who would like to run the ball and keep the defense off the field. This is finally Muma’s chance to shine.
- Jordyn Brooks, LB Dolphins at Patriots
- Brooks is wearing the green dot with the injury to David Long, who might miss another game this week. Without Long in the lineup, Brooks put together a fantastic IDP day against the Titans on Monday night. He had 13 tackles, nine solo, two TDFL, one sack, and a pass defensed.
- Brooks gets another game against a team that struggles to throw the football. The Patriots should be expected to keep the ball on the ground, creating a lot of tackle opportunities for Brooks. The Patriots just gave up six sacks to the 49ers, which should also give Brooks a chance to add a sack this week.
Fades
- Elandon Roberts, LB Steelers at Cowboys
- The usage is very concerning. Roberts only saw a 32% snap share in Week 4. It looks as if rookie Payton Wilson has taken over the LB2 spot for the Steelers as he saw 56.1% last week. His percentage of snaps has gone up every week.
- With the signing of LB Patrick Queen in the offseason to a large contract, I just don’t see a way Roberts stays on the field in Pittsburgh for the rest of the season without a Queen or Wilson injury.
- Tremaine Edmunds, LB Bears vs Panthers
- Edmunds is getting 100% of the snap share on defense for the Bears, but I don’t love the ceiling. Edmunds had just two tackles against the Rams last week.
- He has relied on splash plays to score in IDP this season, which you don’t love coming from one of your LBs. If you have other LB options with a higher ceiling, I would look at possibly playing them this week.
- Baylon Spector, LB Bills at Texans
- He got 96.5% snap share at LB. The Ravens blew them out and ran the ball for a lot of the game and he still was only able to get 6 tackles, four solo.
- He had a nice fantasy week with 18.8 fantasy points, but a sack and a fumble recovery made his week. I’m not sure he can keep that up, especially against a Texans team that will likely throw the ball quite a bit. I’m fading him against Houston.
Defensive Backs:
Plays
- Paulson Adebo, CB Saints at Chiefs
- Currently DB1 with 68.1 pts. He has been slept on but continues to produce. He was thrown at 13 times last week, so he is going to continue to see volume.
- The Chiefs need to generate some offense, and that needs to come from the passing game. I don’t think Kansas City can beat them deep, which means a lot of underneath routes, which in turn means more tackles for the CBs.
- Von Bell, S Bengals vs Ravens
- The Ravens have pounded the rock this season with RB Derrick Henry and I don’t see that changing this week.
- Bell is playing 50% of snaps in the box and the Bengals are going to need him to help stop the run as they basically only play two LBs. Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt have a ton of tackles this season, but they miss tackles as well. Bell is going to be counted on to clean things up against the running game.
- Cole Bishop, S Bills at Texans
- Bishop is going to get his shot with Taylor Rapp out with a concussion. In Week 4, he ended up with a 71.9% snap share, and getting 51.2% of those snaps in the box.
- Bishop has a chance to maybe steal this job with a good week. He had six tackles with two solo stops in Week 4. He was one of my favorite rookie safeties in the draft and this might just be the opportunity he needs.
Fades
- Trent McDuffie, CB Chiefs vs Chiefs
- McDuffie has not played the number of slot corner snaps we would have liked to see this season. In Week 4, he only saw 19.6% of snaps in the slot, playing 60.7% of snaps out wide.
- McDuffie only has one double-digit scoring effort this season. Now he gets the Saints. They have an improved offense, but they haven’t been throwing the ball all over the place. I don’t see a high upside for McDuffie this week.
- Christian Gonzalez, CB Patriots vs Dolphins
- Gonzalez has been good this season, but I don’t like this matchup at all. The Dolphins are struggling to throw the football with QB Tua Tagovailoa out with a concussion. Tyler Huntley started in Week 4, but didn’t see a lot of success throwing 22 times, completing just 14 passes for 96 yards. I don’t see Huntley challenging Gonzalez a lot in this one.
- The Dolphins haven’t led a single second of a game this season and are now an underdog to the Patriots. This game should be ugly. A lot of LB tackles against the run in this one, but not a lot left over for the DBs.
- Quan Martin, S Commanders vs Browns
- I like Martin a lot as a player, but the second-year player out of Illinois, is struggling to produce IDP production. Martin is basically living deep in the secondary. While he is playing over 95% of snaps, nearly 90% are coming as the deep safety.
- His tackle floor is low. After garnering eight solo tackles in the season opener, he only has two solo tackles in each of the last three games. Martin is going to need
