Welcome to our fourteenth IDP Start & Sit article at Fantasy In Frames for the 2023 fantasy football season!
Hey everyone, it’s Nate Marcum!. Whether you’re newer to IDP or have been playing for years, my goal of these starts and sits is to provide you with stud picks I’m a huge fan of each week, from your top-tier players to play in your shallow leagues down to deeper league options. However, with the good picks come the ones I am less high on that you should consider alternatives for each week. Here are my IDP Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 14 (2023).
Defensive Linemen
Starts
Will Anderson Jr (HOU) @ NYJ
- Top 10 in pressures over past three weeks (16)
- Anderson will square up against a Jets’ team that has surrendered the 2nd most pressures, 3rd most sacks, and the 2nd highest sack %.
- Anderson will line up opposite rookie RT, Carter Warren. Warren popped up on injury report and is questionable. The Jets’ O-line, already a weakness, begins even thinner.
Rashan Gary (GB) @ NYG
- Rashan Gary has been the definition of extreme boom or bust.
- Gary has eight games with under 7 fantasy points (per FantasyPros), and Gary also has two games with over 25.
- Ideal matchup against the league’s worst O-Line.
- Tommy DeVito prone to the sack (21% sack rate)
Andrew Van Ginkel/Bradley Chubb (MIA) v TENN
- Tennessee O-line continues to disappoint.
- The 38 sacks allowed to Tannehill and Levis would be equal to the 3rd most allowed
- Christian Wilkins is trending towards playing, making their pass-rush even more electric.
SITS
Darrell Taylor (SEA) @ SF
- While Frank Clark will be inactive for Week 14, don’t be tempted to start Taylor.
- Sure, Taylor has back-to-back games with a sack, but his opponent, Trent Williams, is my “do not test” weekly.
Harold Landry III (TEN) @ MIA
- Miami is another team that does an incredible job of limiting opposing edge rushers.
- Landry III has been better as of late, with at least three pressures over the past month and a couple of sacks for good measure.
- The Dolphins O-Line is just playing too well and Tua doesn’t hold the ball long enough. Not to mention, they limit opposing DEs and EDGE rushers to a very low tackle ceiling.
Montez Sweat (CHI) v DET
- Montez has flashed over his past two games, but this isn’t the matchup to expect it to continue.
- Penei Sewell has done an incredible job of shutting down opposing pass-rushers, and look for this to continue in Week 14.
Linebackers
Starts
Nick Bolton (KC) v BUFF
- Bolton set to return from the IR
- Loss of Drue Tranquill solidifies my stance on his playing time
- Buffalo has allowed the 4th most tackles to opposing LBs.
- Weather could be a negative impact, keeping the ball even more LB friendly
Ivan Pace (MIN) @ LV
- Vikings still without Jordan Hicks
- Pace has played 100% of the snaps over his past two games
- Over the past two games for Pace (Wk 11 & 12), he has been the LB10 in FP scoring.
- The Vikings still play a heavy three-safety set, thus leaving Pace as the lone LB in games
SITS
Jack Campbell (DET) @ CHI
- Alex Anzalone is set to return in Week 14.
- With Anzalone on the field, Campbell hadn’t played enough snaps to be LB viable.
- While he has really played well in Anzalone’s absence, I worry about a split duty with Derrick Barnes (at best)
Josey Jewell (DEN) @ LAC
- Jewell hasn’t had more than six tackles since Week 7.
- The Chargers have allowed the 5th fewest tackles to opposing LBs. With Singleton on the field, that leaves only a handful for Jewell.
Denzel Perryman/Christian Harris (HST) @ NYJ
- With Blake Cashman dominating the snaps in Houston, both Perryman and Harris look to split the leftovers.
- The Jets already allow the 2nd fewest tackles to LBs, and with a banged up Breece Hall and poor weather, I am fully avoiding these two.
Defensive Backs
Starts
Jamal Adams (SEA) @ SF
- SF very generous to opposing safeties (1st in tackles allowed)
- Seattle could be without Jordyn Brooks, leaving more meat on the bone for Jamal Adams
- SF has the 3rd highest 3rd down conversion rate, while Seattle allows the 4th highest percentage. Should be plenty of defensive snaps
Grant Delpit (CLV) v JAX
- Weather should have an impact on this game.
- Trevor Lawrence is a game-time decision, that has implications regardless.
- IF Lawrence plays, his injury is to the plant foot, leaving Delpit and the Browns in position to force turnovers, especially in inclement weather.
- IF Lawrence doesnt’ play, the Jags will look to lean on the running game even more, resulting in an inflated tackle floor for Delpit.
SITS
Jalen Pitre (HST) @ NYJ
- I am just fully avoiding all facets of the Texans D outside of pass-rushers
- Pitre only has (1) game with double-digit tackles in 2023. He had seven games with 9+ tackles in 2022.
Jayron Kearse (DAL) v PHI
- Continued poor play has seemingly cost him consistent playing time.
- Per PFF, Kearse is the lowest graded safety in the NFL over the past two weeks.
- Can’t trust a player if I can’t trust him to be on the field in a huge divisional matchup.
Jevon Holland (MIA) v TENN
- Hard to recommend sitting Holland, but multiple factors are giving me pause.
- Tennessee allowing the 2nd fewest points to opposing Safeties.
- Injury designation leaves a risky proposition for a MNF game.
