Favorable Wide Receiver Matchups for Week 4 (2021)

Week 4 is upon us and after a 50% hit rate in Week 3 (damn you Hollywood Brown) we’re looking to get back to our 75% hit rate from the first couple of game weeks. Hopefully, these four overlooked pass-catchers can help propel YOU to a win this week!

Darnell Mooney – Chicago Bears

The speedster has struggled for form this season, producing only one game with over 30 receiving yards. The QB play has been below par, and the offense as a whole has failed to impress but a game against the Detroit Lions gives Mooney and this Bears offense a great opportunity to get on track though. Detroit’s secondary grades last in defensive coverage vs WR’s according to PFF, and with Allen Robinson likely to be priority #1 for the Lions defense we should see some favorable matchups for Mooney.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine – Tennessee Titans

“Who?” I hear you ask. Westbrook-Ikhine is likely deputizing for one of A.J. Brown or Julio Jones against the Jets this week. The second-year WR caught all 4 of his targets in Week 3 for 53 yards and a TD, now he did lose a fumble and that could see him on a short leash this week, but if he can protect the ball he should have every chance to make an impact against a Jets secondary that grades comfortably inside the bottom 10 in defensive coverage vs WR’s.

Will Fuller – Miami Dolphins

Another speedster on the list this week as Dolphins pass-catcher Will Fuller looks to improve on a somewhat underwhelming first outing as a Miami player. This is an offense that likes to throw the football and based on Fuller’s 6 targets against the Raiders, we shouldn’t worry about the volume being an issue (so long as he stays on the field!) and against a Colts defense that has struggled to stop anyone through the air this year, grading 31st overall in defensive coverage vs WR’s. This could be the perfect opportunity for the deep-threat Fuller to open his account for the Dolphins and bag us a load of FF points in the process!

Brandon Aiyuk – San Francisco 49ers

Okay, I don’t often do second chances, but I feel like I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t mention Aiyuk this week. The sophomore receiver seemingly found himself in Kyle Shanahan’s bad books to start the season as he was an afterthought in Week 1 and little more than a bit-part player in Week 2, but Week 3 was more promising for Aiyuk as he was much more involved in the offense, catching 4 passes for 37 yards and a TD against Green Bay. The Seattle defense he’ll be up against this week is a poor one, they lack talent and depth at all three levels, especially in the secondary, and they grade out as a bottom-10 unit in defensive coverage vs WR’s through three weeks. Aiyuk dominated Seattle last year as he caught 8 of 10 targets for 91 yards and a TD and a similar performance would be very well received here!
