Every week this season, Fantasy In Frames is going to help you at the quarterback and tight end position by providing you with some of the best favorable matchups of the week. This week, let’s discuss the favorable QB & TE Matchups for Week 13!
“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead, you relax, and float.” – Alan Watts
Now it is December, which means it is almost the end of the fantasy football regular season. For most leagues, Week 14 is the last week of the regular season this year. It is time to focus and follow the process and float to success. Do not force a bad move and sink your chances to make the playoffs.
You have two games to strengthen your playoff position or get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, some of you are already eliminated from playoff contention. I appreciate you continuing to read my content even though you are already eliminated. No matter what, there is plenty to learn about the teams and players to help you for next season. The best way to be better next season is to start preparing now by not checking out of this season.
Now let’s do our best to finish strong!
How Did We Do?
For the season we have recommended streaming a QB1 35% of the time, and for Week 12 we missed the mark going 0 for 3 with Tyrod Taylor (15), Taylor Heinicke (21), and Jimmy Garoppolo (22). Heinicke and Garoppolo only scored one touchdown each, and that just wasn’t enough to help you in fantasy even though their actual teams won. Taylor threw two touchdowns but did not have enough passing yards or rushing stats to get him up to a QB1 in fantasy.
For the season, we have recommended streaming a TE1 39% and a TE2 65% of the time, and for Week 11 we were 1 for 3 for TE1. Cole Kmet had a career record of targets (11) and receptions (8) and finished as the TE7 without scoring a touchdown. Evan Engram failed in the best TE matchup as the TE21, but his backup caught a touchdown so the process made sense and the results didn’t match. Dan Arnold played five snaps before getting injured and is now on IR, so he did not bounce back as we were hoping.
Week 13 Bye Week Teams (impacted QBs and TEs): Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers (QB Aaron Rodgers), Tennessee Titans
Quarterbacks to Stream – Week 13
Carson Wentz (@ HOU) – 48.5% rostered in ESPN:
Carson Wentz is coming off a big Week 12 as the QB6. He threw three touchdowns and 306 yards with three turnovers. Wentz played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a great run defense, so the Colts threw a lot to get back in the game (44 passing attempts). This week the Colts play the Houston Texans. This is a great matchup, but Jonathan Taylor could easily score several rushing touchdowns as he did against the Bills. If you need to stream a quarterback this week then Wentz has a great matchup and a safe floor. Wentz’s boom potential is limited by Taylor, but Wentz has a safe floor. If you think you need a high score from your streamer QB based on your matchup then I would not recommend Carson Wentz this week.
Tua Tagovailoa (vs NYG) – 43.7% rostered in ESPN:
I hope this pick is as accurate as Tua Tagovailoa has been the last two weeks. Tua has completed 84.5% of his passes the last two games, and 80.5% in November, which was best in the NFL during that span. He is not completing a high rate by is throwing short passes because he has the 2nd highest yards per attempt (8.58). He has a solid matchup against the New York Giants who have been average against quarterbacks. The Miami Dolphins have been on a roll lately winning four games in a row and that momentum should continue this week. Tua is my favorite quarterback streamer this week.
Taylor Heinicke (@ LV) – 21.8% rostered in ESPN:
Tyler Heinicke did not crush it last week for fantasy scoring (QB21) even though he played well and the Washington Football Team won the game. Heinicke has played well having the 3rd highest passer rating over the last three weeks (119.86). He has been very accurate lately with the 3rd highest competition percentage during that same span (76.7%). However, the WFT has been running the ball recently so Heinicke averages the 15th most passing yards per game over the last three games (228.3). In deeper leagues, Heinicke may be the only quarterback available on this list to stream, and he provides a good floor since he averaged 20.1 fantasy points per game over the last three games.
Tight Ends to Stream – Week 13
Tyler Conklin (@ DET) – 37.6% rostered in ESPN:
Tyler Conklin has been on the streamer list frequently this season. From Week 6 to Week 10, he averaged 6 targets per game and 11.6 fantasy points per game. Then last 2 weeks he averaged only 3 targets per game and 5 fantasy points per game. The Detroit Lions have been average against tight ends, allowing 9.7 fantasy points per game. Conklin has shown that he only needs 5 to 6 targets to be a TE1 this week.
Foster Moreau (vs WSH) – 12.4% rostered in ESPN:
Foster Moreau is a viable streamer this week because Darren Waller is expected to be out this week with a knee injury. In Week 7 when Waller was out, Moreau played 100% of the snaps and had 6 receptions from 6 targets (17.6% target share), 60 yards, and 1 touchdown for 18 fantasy points. That was against the Philadelphia Eagles, who give up the most fantasy points to tight ends in the NFL. That stat line is unrealistic to expect, but the target share is reasonable and the best streaming tight ends to pick are the ones with the best chance at a higher target share. The WFT defense has been improving, but it is not a matchup to avoid. Foster Moreau is my favorite tight end to stream this week, assuming Waller is out.
Gerald Everett (vs SF) – 5.5% rostered in ESPN:
Gerald Everett has scored well in two of the last three weeks since Russell Wilson has been back from injury. Over those three weeks, he was the TE4 in fantasy points per game (11.9). From the last 3 games, he had the 3rd most targets (21), 3rd most receptions (16), 8th most yards (137), and 8th most touchdowns (1). Everett compiled these stats while Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense struggled. Even if the struggles continue, Everett proved he can score enough fantasy points anyway. The 49ers are the 5th toughest defensive matchup for tight ends, but their best coverage linebacker, Fred Warner, is expected to be out this week. Everett is my favorite tight end streamer this week in deep leagues, or if Darren Waller plays this week.
