Favorable IDP Matchups for Week 5 (2021)

Each week we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming NFL games and giving you our take on which IDPs have the most favorable matchups and who you should be considering starting in your fantasy football teams.

Let’s get started for Week 5

Jason Pierre-Paul (Defensive Line/Edge)-Tampa Bay Buccanneers

These are the words we were so patiently waiting to hear! JPP has battled his way back from a shoulder and hand injury which has cost him the past two weeks, and it couldn’t come at a more opportune time. Tampa Bay is hosting the Miami Dolphins in a game that should be handled pretty easily by the Bucs. JPP in return will have plenty of opportunities to just focus on getting to Jacoby Brissett. In his way will be Austin Jackson. Jackson has had a difficult time stopping edge rushers on the season, as he has allowed a league-high, 17 pressures. Look for JPP to return to doing what he has excelled at, making opposing QB’s lives miserable.

Damien Wilson (Linebacker)-Jacksonville Jaguars

When thinking of Jaguars linebackers to start, Myles Jack would be the answer that comes to mind. Well, I don’t think we all have the luxury of having Myles Jack on our roster. What we do have tho, is the potential to pick up former KC Chief, Damien Wilson.

Wilson has seen his workload increase week over week, and he has paid decent dividends to the Jags LB room, and even to fantasy managers. While he is not lighting the world on fire, he did rack up 9 tackles last week, good for 15 fantasy points. This week, his attention is all about Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans. Anytime you get to face the Titans, with a depleted WR core, we can expect to see a heavy dose of Henry. On the season, the Titans have allowed multiple LBs to have fantasy-relevant weeks in the same week.

I expect the same this week. Look for Jack to put Wilson in proper position and collect double-digit tackles with the upside for a splash play for an added bonus.

Desmond King (Defensive Back)-Houston Texans

Desmond King has earned the trust of Lovie Smith and the Houston Texans. While playing in less than 100% of the snaps in the subsequent weeks leading up to Week 4, his play on the field prompted Smith to give him an extended look. The result was 100% of the snaps in the matchup vs Buffalo, resulting in 22 fantasy points and a DB1 on the week.

This week the Texans will face the New England Patriots. While I don’t expect to see King play in 71 snaps, I do expect to see him targeted often and play a key role in run defense. As you can see above, he grades high in run D, despite his diminutive stature. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him slid back into a slot corner role at times, seeing as how the Patriots target Jakobi Myers in the slot rather often.

This is nothing more than a CB option in leagues where the CB position is needed, but I love the heart that this young man has on the field.
