Favorable IDP Matchups for Week 1 (2021)

Each week we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming NFL games and giving you our take on which IDPs have the most favourable matchups and who you should be considering starting in your fantasy football teams.

Let’s get started for week 1!

Bobby Okereke (Linebacker) – Indianapolis Colts

With Anthony Walker out of the picture, it appears that Bobby Okereke is in line for a full-time role and even more responsibilities. This week’s matchup against the Seahawks has the making of an explosive showing for the 3rd year LB. What is yet to be determined is if the Seahawks are going to try and keep the game on the ground or air it out. Regardless of the scenario, with elite options upfront in Buckner and Grover Stewart, Okereke can be heavily involved all over the field. Look for Okereke to rack up double-digit tackles and the potential for pass breakups across the middle.

Eric Wilson (Linebacker) – Philadephia Eagles

Coming off of a team-high 122 tackles in 2020, the Eagles are hoping that Wilson can replicate the production with them this year. Coming off of a team-high 122 tackles in 2020, the Eagles are hoping that Wilson can replicate the production with them this year. Wilson was hidden behind Eric Kendricks in Minnesota, despite producing LB1 numbers. The matchup in Week 1 vs Cincy could prove to be high scoring, with plenty of opportunities for Wilson to make impact plays all over the field. His ability to get to the QB may be on display, as well as his coverage ability, evidenced by his 3 INT last season.

Dre’Mont Jones (Defensive Lineman) – Denver Broncos

With no Jurrell Casey on the roster, this season look for Jones to add this dominant pass-rush (on paper) of the Denver Broncos. Kicking out to defensive end from his defensive tackle position in 2019 Jones will bring his 22.4% win rate versus offensive linemen (which put him as the DI 16 according to Pro Football Focus. With the Giants’ offensive line still in question on top of them having to be on the lookout for Von Miller and Bradley Chubb look for Jones to get involved early and often in this game and provide DL2 upside in IDP123 scoring.

Tracey Walker (Defensive Back) – Detroit Lions

In 2019, when Tracy Walker played at free safety he flourished in both real football and fantasy football. He posted the 3rd most solo tackles & 8th most tackles for a loss. Not bad for a safety whose primary responsibility is to play in coverage. In IDP123 scoring he was the DB 11 in total fantasy points scored and DB 5 in fantasy points per game with 17.2. Given how poor this defensive unit as a whole is heading into in 2021 it would be no surprise to see Walker’s role expand to more of a “lines up everywhere” type role on this defense. With the new coaching regime in Detroit switching Walker back to that free-roaming safety role look for him to have a solid game in week 1 versus the 49ers this week.
