Fantasy Football Waiver Wire for Week 8 (2023)

Welcome to our eighth Waiver Wire article at Fantasy In Frames for the 2023 fantasy football season!

It’s week 8, do you know where your fantasy football team is?  Hello all, I’m riding with you today to help fill those open roster spots!  Whether it be from losing a player to injury or looking for a bye-week filler, I’m here to help you scour your waiver wire to find those players to help us get closer to the line.  All players listed in the article are under 50% in Sleeper leagues and possibly available on your waiver wire.  With that, let’s get into week 8 and march towards victory!

This list consists of players rostered in less than 50% of leagues on Sleeper.

  1. Kyler Murray – 49% rostered on Sleeper
    • Kyler has been designated to return from IR and now has a 21-day window to be activated.  You shouldn’t expect him to play this week, but by stashing him now, you will beat the high-dollar FAAB bids to come.
    • The Arizona Cardinals have been a much better team than expected, and Kyler returning could give teams with QB issues a nice boost down the stretch.
  1. Bryce Young – 25% rostered on Sleeper
    • Bryce is coming off a bye week and a solid performance against the Dolphins in his last outing, throwing for 217 yards and a TD.
    • Young faces Houston, Indianapolis, and Chicago in his next 3 matchups.  All 3 defenses have been susceptible to the pass.
  1. Tyson Bagent – 7% rostered on Sleeper
    • Bagent has already been named the starter for week 8, and it didn’t seem that the NFL game was too much for him with a win against Las Vegas Sunday.
    • Bagent will take on the Chargers in his next matchup, a defense that has been torched through the air.  With LA being able to score a lot, Bagent may have to throw a lot to keep pace.
  1. Darrell Henderson – 36% rostered on Sleeper
    • Kyren Williams going on IR left a large void in the RB room for the Rams.  The lack of competition leaves decent volume for Henderson while Kyren is on the shelf.
    • Henderson started the game and out-touched the rest of the backfield with 18 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown.
  1. Elijah Mitchell – 45% rostered on Sleeper
    • Christian McCaffrey is still nursing injuries and may need to be spelled from his massive workload moving forward.  Mitchell should be the next man up.
    • After returning from an injury himself, Mitchell was slowly worked back into the mix and should see his usage grow.  If, for any reason, CMC misses time, Mitchell could thrive in the great run scheme in San Francisco.
  1. Pierre Strong – 4% rostered on Sleeper
    • Jerome Ford suffered an ankle injury in the 4th qtr of Sunday’s game.  If he were to miss time, Strong projects to be part of a committee with Hunt.
    • Kareem Hunt was dealing with a thigh injury heading into week 7 and was out-touched by Strong after Ford went down.  Strong could see major touches behind one of the league’s best rush offenses.
  1. Rashid Shaheed – 37% rostered on Sleeper
    • Shaheed has 3 double-digit outings so far this season and has the boom potential if looking for a WR3/Flex replacement for byes.
    • Shaheed has plus matchups for the next month facing the Jags, Colts, Bears, and Vikings before his bye, all defenses that have been thrown on this season.
  1. Michael Gallup – 22% rostered on Sleeper
    • Gallup saw 10 targets in his last outing against the Chargers and at least 5 targets in his last 4 games.
    • Dallas faces the Rams and Eagles in their next two matchups; both teams are capable of scoring points.  The Dallas pass game will have to be effective to keep pace.  With Lamb drawing much attention, Gallup can exploit single and soft zone coverages.
  1. Jayden Reed – 26% rostered on Sleeper
    • Reed salvaged his day Sunday with an improbable touchdown but played 50% of the snaps for Green Bay.
    • Reed could be in line for an expanded role if Christian Watson was injured at the end of the game on Sunday misses any time.  When Watson was out earlier in the year, Reed had double-digit production in 2 of those 3 games.
  1. Logan Thomas – 47% rostered on Sleeper
    • Thomas is quietly putting together a nice season despite the disappointment in week 6 vs Atlanta, posting double-digit numbers in 4 of the 6 games he has played.
    • Week 8 is a good matchup against the Eagles in which the game script could lead to a lot of passing for Sam Howell.  If that is the case, it’s possible for Howell to find his big TE across the middle to move the chains more often.
  1. Jake Ferguson – 43% rostered on Sleeper
    • Ferguson has been the primary TE for the Cowboys this season and has seen at least 4 targets in 4 of the 6 games played so far this season.
    • With matchups coming up against the Rams, Eagles, Giants, and Panthers, it’s possible he continues to see a lot of targets thrown his way because of possible high-scoring affairs.
  1. Taysom Hill – 13% rostered on Sleeper
    • Taysom had a large snap percentage in the last two weeks, with targets of 8 and 5, respectively.
    • With Juwan Johnson out with injury, Hill has seen an increase in passing targets and has put those targets to good use.  If Johnson is out again, Hill slots in as the primary tight end and a target monster for a less than 100% Derek Carr.
  1. Indianapolis Colts – 7% rostered on Sleeper
    • The Colts have a decent upcoming schedule, facing the Saints, Panthers, and Patriots.
    • During this run, they face an injured Derek Carr, a rookie Bryce Young, and an unimpressive Mac Jones.  It’s possible for turnovers during this stretch against these QBs.
  1. Houston Texans – 4% rostered on Sleeper
    • The Texans face Bryce Young and the Panthers, coming off their bye week.  The Panthers’ o-line is not stellar, and they face the rookie QB who has turned the ball over early in the season.
    • In week 9, the Texans take on the Bucs in a matchup that very well could be low-scoring, and Baker Mayfield has a propensity to turn the ball over at times.
  1. Atlanta Falcons – 11% rostered on Sleeper
    • The Falcons face the Titans in their next matchup and probably without their starting QB, Ryan Tannehill.  Malik Willis has not looked good as a pro, and Will Levis is a rookie; the Falcons have a plus matchup there.
    • The Falcons do not allow a lot of points to be scored on them, and facing an inexperienced quarterback and a team that likes to run the ball could provide a low-scoring game script that favors the Falcons defense.
