Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 4

Welcome to our Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 4 of the 2022 fantasy football season!

Howdy folks! This week I’ll look to redeem myself from some rather poor calls on my part from last week. Some of which you’ll agree with, some you’ll question, but make no mistake about it, this week I’ve found for you some GREAT MATCHUPS for you to take on and for you to avoid this week! With that out of the way, let’s get down to our Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 4!

Quarterbacks

START: Ryan Tannehill versus the Indianapolis Colts

Facing the 31st-ranked pass-rushing unit in the NFL, Ryan Tannehill will look to carry over the momentum he had going for himself last week. The Colts, on the season, have been allowing on average 17.5 half-ppr points to opposing quarterbacks, and yes, Shaquill Leonard will look to make his season debut against the Titans, but something tells me this defense will have its hands full with Derrick Henry. As we’ve seen in seasons where Tannehill has finished as a Top 12 QB, as Derrick Henry goes, so does Tannehill.

Start him as your QB2 in 2-QB leagues and as a SuperFlex option this week!

Additional Start Candidates: Geno Smith versus The Detroit Lions, Mitch Trubisky versus The New York Jets, and Aaron Rodgers versus The New England Patriots

SIT: Matthew Stafford versus The San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are one of the stingiest defenses against opposing QBs in real and fantasy football, allowing on average 10.3 fantasy points to the position on the season. Stafford, who ranks as the QB11 in turnover-worthy plays via PFF, will have his hands full in trying to avoid this dominant pass-rush of the 49ers all day that he is bound to make plenty of errors that could cost you your matchup if you start him.

Avoid.

Additional Sit Candidates: Carson Wentz versus The Dallas Cowboys, Joe Burrow versus The Miami Dolphins, and Jameis Winston versus The Minnesota Vikings

Running Backs

START: Breece Hall versus The Pittsburgh Steelers

Breece Hall will look to have a breakout game this season versus a team that just got eviscerated by the Browns running game last week on Thursday Night Football. On the season, Hall has tallied 112 yards on the ground with a 5.3 yards per carry average and 101 yards through the air on a team-leading 21 targets. The volume is there for Hall to have a big game this week and with the return of Zach Wilson at Quarterback, look for the high-volume passing attack to subside for the Jets and for them to get back to basics with the running game.

Additional Start Candidates: Khalil Herbert versus The New York Giants, Miles Sanders versus The Jacksonville Jaguars, and Devin Singletary versus The Baltimore Ravens.

SIT: Cam Akers versus The San Francisco 49ers

I hope you enjoyed Cam Akers scoring you 10.1 fantasy points for your team in Week 3 versus the Arizona Cardinals because his 5.1 yards per carry average on 61 yards isn’t bound to happen this week against the best-rated defense in the NFL. While he did look better last week compared the first two weeks of the season, one has to see more consistency from week to week before he is inserted into your RB2/FLEX spot each week.

Additional Sit Candidates: Antonio Gibson versus The Dallas Cowboys, Travis Etienne versus The Philadelphia Eagles, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire versus The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Wide Receivers

START: DK Metcalf versus The Detroit Lions

Going against a Lions’ team that hemorrhages fantasy points to opposing offenses, DK Metcalf should have a BIG performance against Detroit this week. I never thought I’d say this, but he and Geno Smith are building a solid connection this season. Metcalf’s 64 yards, 1 TD, and 14.9 fantasy points on TWELVE TARGETS last week is honestly what I thought you could expect on average going into the season with DK.

Fire him up as your WR 1 this week!

Additional Start Candidates: Brandon Aiyuk versus The Los Angeles Rams, Rashod Batman versus The Buffalo Bills, and Romeo Doubs versus The New England Patriots

SIT: D.J. Moore versus The Arizona Cardinals

Averaging 0.9 yards per routes ran on the season, D.J. Moore (Go Terps) and his connection with Baker Mayfield have been god-awful. He’s practically useless for you in fantasy, and I don’t foresee him being a viable option for you going forward.

Additional Sit Candidates: Allen Robinson versus The San Francisco 49ers, Brandin Cooks versus The Los Angeles Chargers, and Mike Williams versus The Houston Texans

Tight Ends

START: Robert Tonyan versus The New England Patriots

The Pats are allowing the 4th most points to the position on the season, and coming off of a 7-target game versus the Bucs last week, it’s looking like this passing offense is starting to click with Tonyan becoming one of the focal points for Aaron Rodgers.

I love the matchup for him this week, and you should too!

Additional Start Candidates: Pat Freiermuth versus The New York Jets and Dalton Schultz versus The Washington Commanders

SIT: Cole Kmet versus The New York Giants

He’s had just 2 receptions all season.

No further justification for sitting him is needed.

Additional Sit Candidate: Tyler Higbee versus The San Francisco 49ers
