Bold Statements
There were some bold statements made in week 6 of the NFL season!
- Jameis Winston’s “bold” performance confirmed to me that he should never be started, even as a streaming candidate, going forward this season
- Devin Bush showed that offenses just need to scheme away from him because he’s making bold plays all over the field week in and week out
- Terry McLaurin let it be known he’s the best rookie wide receiver in the league and it’s not even close
- Aaron Jones made a huge statement on Monday Night Football that he’s not ready for the spotlight in this Packers offense yet
- Daniel Jones played awful stats-wise, but he looked like he was the most comfortable/confident QB to face the Pats all season and the confidence he gained from that matchup will pay dividends down the road
- The 49ers D/ST is NOT to be f***** with. Yes, I normally only discuss IDP when it pertains to defense, but good lord they’ve looked dominant as of late
One of the things that makes fantasy football fun is being able to watch games each week and look for the players that play like they have nothing left to lose and take advantage of their opportunities when they’re afforded to them. Players who do that REALLY grab my attention and make me want to roster them in some capacity. After all, you always want players that are trending in the right direction on your team versus the other way.
As I do every week my job is to bring to your attention players that were of tremendous value or lack thereof from the following week and how inserting them into your starting rosters can potentially help or hurt you going forward this season.
**DISCLAIMER**
As always when discussing fantasy point production we’re referring to 0.5 PPR scoring. IDP fantasy point scoring is solely based on our very own IDP scoring rubric which will be presented to you when we discuss IDPs later on in the article.
Here are my 4-EYED OBSERVATIONS from Week 6!
Quarterbacks: Kirk Cousins played WELL above expectations this week, but don’t let that fool you going forward
Kirk Cousins did pretty, pretty, pretty well on Sunday:
- Tied for 1st in TD passes with 4
- 1st in passing yards per attempt with 11.5
- 2nd in QBR (quarterback rating)
- 3rd in completion percentage
- 6th in fantasy points scored with 27.3
It’s been two weeks since the turmoil in Minnesota occurred and since that time Cousins has averaged 23.9 fpts/game. For those, like yours truly, who drafted him in the later rounds of some fantasy drafts this season THESE were the kind of performances you were hoping to get out of him given the potency at the skill positions of this offense. The bad news is these performances were against some of the weakest secondaries in the NFL. Next week Cousins and the Vikings face the Detriot Lions which rank 11th in pass coverage. Temper your expectations for him in week 7.
Running Backs: Chase Edmonds has no quit in him
I was one of the people who drafted David Johnson #1 overall in 2018. I was one of those people who cringed when Chase Edmonds vultured TD after TD and carry after carry from DJ in 2018. This is not 2018, I did not draft DJ #1 overall, and NOW I’m VERY excited about what Chase Edmonds can provide myself and other fantasy managers this season.
Although DJ was the primary beneficiary in terms of attempts in the Cardinals backfield on Sunday with 18 total touches, Edmonds took advantage of his 7 touches and posted 67 total yards, 1 TD, and 13.7 fantasy points which put him at RB15 in week 6. The past couple of weeks, granted were against weaker opponents, Edmonds has averaged 14.9 fantasy points per game. Not every week is going to provide that type of floor, but one thing is for certain in that Edmonds looks like a man who is on a mission to make a name for himself on this offense. In week 7, the Cardinals face the New York Giants who rank dead last in the NFL in coverage, which is great for a pass-catching back, and given the nature of this pass-heavy offense, he should make for a solid flex play.
Wide Receivers: Jamison Crowder was the top target on the Jets this weekend and should be going forward
For those who listened to our latest podcast episode during our FLEX OFF segment, I made an impassioned plea for folks to start Jamison Crowder due to Sam Darnold showing in week 1 that he felt the most comfortable with Crowder out of everyone in the Jets receiving corps. My opponent took the side of starting Kenny Golladay. The best part of that FLEX OFF matchup is that both my opponent, Aaron, and I were both right as both our wide receivers put up comparable stat lines in week 6 and thus rewarded their fantasy managers.
Crowder, on the day:
- 1st on the team among starting WRs in completion percentage
- 1st on the team at WR in targets
- 2nd on the team in yards per reception with 16.3
- 2nd on the team in fantasy points with 12.3
The Jets get the Patriots on Monday Night football which usually spells doom for opposing wide receivers, but given the fact that slot WR Golden Tate was able to put up a hundo plus a touchdown against the Patriots in week 6 gives me confidence that Crowder can at least get close to that in week 7. He’s a solid WR3/FLEX candidate this week.
Defensive Back: Rashaad Jones keeps making plays week in and week out
For the second game in a row, Rashaad Jones was leading solo tackler on his team. His TEAM with 7. Using our scoring rubric Jones has averaged, since coming back from injury 13 fpts/game. Strong safeties play the run and are turning into essentially really good linebackers that can play in coverage. Rashaad Jones took advantage of a great matchup versus the Redskins, who emphasized the running game, and in week 7 the Dolphins will take on the Bills who have a mobile quarterback and an older plodding running back as their starter. #FinsUp
Defensive Lineman: Markus Golden has been a treasure thus far in IDP
The Golden reign in New York has been a consistent one for this Giants edge rusher. On the season he’s averaged 8.5 pts/game in IDP, but this week he’ll be chasing after Kyler Murray and squaring off against an offensive line that ranks 9th in pass blocking so be weary of his fantasy point production in week 7.
Linebacker: Neville Hewitt is the unsung hero at the linebacker position in the city of New York
In week 4, Hewitt was tied for a team lead in solo tackles with 4, on the season he’s led the team in solo tackles with 23, and has averaged 13 fpts/game this year. We call that a #TackleMachine. YOU should call him your starting linebacker each week.
