Chris Godwin’s 2025 Potential Free Agency Landing Spots

Chris Godwin was off to a hot start in 2024 before an ankle dislocation took him off the field in week 7 for the remainder of the season.
He finished with 50 receptions, 576 yards, and five touchdowns. Godwin was on pace for his best fantasy season, averaging 19.7 points per game in PPR. He finished the year without a drop on 52 catchable balls thrown his way. Godwin will enter next season seeking his next contract at 29 years old with an injury-plagued career. Even with the injury history, spottrack.com still estimates his market value to be 20+ million dollars annually.
Below are a few teams that, based on their needs, cap space, and overall roster construction, could potentially make a big push for Godwin. Here are Chris Godwin’s 2025 Potential Free Agency Landing Spots!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay is my safest bet on where Chris Godwin will play next year. He’s been a key player for the Bucs in terms of the Super Bowl win and his consistently solid production when healthy. The WR3 finish in PPR before his injury speaks volumes about his potential if he can stay on the field in 2025. Assuming he’s back to full strength after recovery, the WR2 or flex role is a sweet spot for value in fantasy, especially considering his ability to rack up yards and have those high-volume games.
Many people will be cautious due to his injury history, but if he’s healthy, he could definitely outperform his ADP, and his familiarity with the team and quarterback could lead to a seamless return to form. It’ll be interesting to see how Tampa’s offense evolves, too—will they keep their identity with Godwin at the forefront, or will they shift more toward other options? If he’s healthy, I could still see him being a steal for fantasy owners.
New England Patriots
I initially included the Washington Commanders in this discussion, but after their trade for Deebo Samuel for a fifth-round draft pick, it became clear that the Patriots are the team to watch. New England has needed a true #1 wide receiver for quite some time. With promising young QB Drake Maye coming in, bringing in a seasoned, reliable possession receiver like Chris Godwin would significantly boost the offense. Godwin’s ability to run precise routes and make contested catches would align well with New England’s system, primarily since the QB will likely focus on short-to-medium range passing early in his career. If Chris Godwin becomes the primary possession receiver in New England, his ranking for 2025 will improve. I envision him being drafted among the top 20 wide receivers, alongside players like DJ Moore, DK Metcalf, and George Pickens. Godwin would have the opportunity to lead the team in targets and receptions. It’s reasonable to predict that he could finish as a top 20 wide receiver if healthy.
Pittsburgh Steelers
I battled back and forth between the Steelers signing him and the Jaguars. Jacksonville makes sense with Liam Cohn, who is now the head coach. However, with the signing of Gabe Davis last year at $13 million per year, I feel the Jags have more significant needs to address. The Steelers are a team that could use Godwin’s skill set to complement George Pickens. With some uncertainty at the quarterback position, Godwin could still thrive as a top target in the offense, whether with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields under center. His ability to be a consistent, possession-focused receiver would make him a strong fantasy option in the top 25 at WR. You could draft him in that WR2/flex range alongside players like Jaylen Waddle and Chris Olave. If he stays healthy and finds a good role in Pittsburgh’s offense, I can see him exceeding expectations and becoming a steal at his draft price.
