The IDP Roundup from Week 6 (2023)

What’s up, fellow IDP degenerates! I have a brand new series that I will be bringing you all each week called the IDP Round Up!

Looking at the box scores each week has been adequate for many to stay competitive in the IDP streets, but how do you gain a noticeable edge? That is the goal of this article. I want to dig deep into each game and find stats, notes, injuries, trends, etc.; all with the intention of giving the tools to be proactive in your approach.

Which players are under-appreciated and deserve another chance? Which teams are putting their players in a better position to score fantasy points? Who is the next big waiver wire add that you can get a week earlier than the competition?

Welcome to The IDP Roundup from Week 6 (2023).

DEN @ KC

George Karlaftis was very active, creating four pressures. This brings his season total to 27, good for 8th in the NFL. The sacks will start to appear, especially as the offense starts to click and expand leads.
Nick Bolton returned to the lineup and was handed a pretty heavy workload right off the bat (89%).
Justin Reid has been a player I’ve been monitoring for some time. His box snaps are in the Top 10 among S, as are his pass-rush snaps. Those two in combination can lead to some blow-up weeks.
Nic Bonitto saw a hefty 76% snap share in Week 6. While he didn’t do much with the usage, the snap% is encouraging.
Alex Singleton saw another game as an everydown linebacker. Over the past three weeks, he has played the 4th most snaps of any LB.

BAL @ TEN

Jadaveon Clowney has been shedding the “run-stopper” description in 2023. Clowney was constantly in the Titans’ backfield, generating nine pressures (2nd most since 2019), bringing the season total to 29. His 29 pressures are tied for 7th in the NFL.
Justin Madubuike has been an intriguing name over the past three games, tallying 3.5 sacks. His usage over tackle and outside the tackle has been paramount to his success. The lack of pass-rushers in Bal has really paved the way for his usage.
Kyle Hamilton didn’t put up a good stat line, in part due to the fact that he only played 32 snaps (58%) due to being ejected for a helmet-to-helmet hit. No suspension is the word.
Harold Landry’s stat line (Five tackles/One sack) may elicit hope, but he actually dropped his season-long pressure rate to 4.29%
Jack Gibbens may have gotten put in the spin cycle by Lamar Jackson, but he tackled nearly everybody else in his sight. Despite only playing 68% of the snaps, he racked up nine tackles, good for an 18.75% tackle rate

MIN @ CHI

Marcus Davenport was injured again. This time landing him on the IR.
DJ Wonnum saw an increase in PT as a result of the Davenport injury. Wonnum took full advantage of the Bears’ O-line, creating six pressures, leading to four tackles and a sack.
The Vikings are steadily playing all three safeties. This week, the trio of Camryn Bynum, Harrison Smith and Josh Metellus played 96% of team snaps, with 43% of them in the box.
Josh Metellus was the recipient of nine blitz snaps. He turned those into three QB hits and a sack.
DeMarcus Walker has been steady over the past two weeks with 10 pressures. While those games were against the Commanders and Vikings, it’s still nice to see someone on Chicago generate some pressure.
Kyler Gordon returned from IR this past week, and saw nearly 62% of the snaps. Kyler was an interesting slot corner to monitor, but that is all he is at the moment. A Free Agent to monitor for IDP.

WSH @ ATL

Montez Sweat suffered a thumb injury, zapping his playing time to 39%. Luckily it appears he avoided major injury. More to come
Chase Young was again a major part of the Commanders’ defense. Young may not have stuffed the stat sheet, but he did lead the team in pressures and played 90% of team snaps.
The Commanders’ O-Line allowed the fewest pressures since Week 1 vs Arizona. Was this a byproduct of an improving offensive line or simply a poor Falcons’ pass-rush?
Jorge Edwards mentioned Calais Campbell as a potential sack candidate, and he was right! Four tackles, two QB hits, and a sack….but still not a weekly starter.
Nate Landman is quickly becoming a weekly starter tho. His eight tackles now extends his 8+ tackle streak to three games.
Kaden Elliss was supposed to be a blitzing fool against this O-Line, but as I should have known, he would see his fewest blitz opportunities since Week 8 of 2022.

NO @ HOU

Carl Granderson did something that only one other person has accomplished against the Texans this season. His six pressures tied a season high, his six tackles are a season high, and his sack brings his season total to 4 ½.
Demario Davis had finally had a big day after three sub-par performances. Despite the down weeks, he remains one of just five players with 35+ tackles, 4+ QB hits, and 2+ sacks.
Will Anderson is nearly at the top of my “buy-low” candidates, mostly for redraft leagues. He recorded a career-high eight pressures, including two QB hits, yet no sacks. He is one of two players with eight QB hits and >2 sacks, the other being John Franklin-Myers.
Blake Cashman saw another massive workload with Denzel Perryman sidelined. Cashman’s 15 tackles tied Foye Oluokon for the Week 6 lead. Over the past two weeks, Cashman has 24 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 16 targets. The 16 targets lead all LBs.
The Texans are on a BYE in Week 7, which could mean a buying opportunity for Cashman. Even with Perryman returning, it will be hard for Demeco Ryans to sit the flouirishing LB.

SEA @ CIN

Jordyn Brooks saw an uninspiring 81.5% snap share. The question is whether this will be the norm or a byproduct of the knee injury that cost him some practice time, even after the Week 6 BYE.
Jamal Adams returned from the BYE week, and saw an immediate return to an 85% snap share. A real positive was the 48% box snaps. Adams’ two blitzes were the most since Week 12 of 2021 (tongue in cheek)
Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard both got a notch in the sack column this week. This marks the 3rd time this year that both players have recorded a sack in the same game.
Nick Scott continues to be an enigma for fantasy owners. Last week he is seemingly benched and it appears Jordan Battle is the next man up. This week Scott plays 92% and battle sees the field for seven snaps.

SF @ CLE

Dre Greenlaw missed Week 6, allowing Oren Burks to see 100% of the snaps. Burks took full advantage of the opportunity and delivered eight tackles and causing chaos in the backfield with four pressures. The 49ers don’t play until Monday night, giving Greenlaw an extra day to rest. If Greenlaw can’t go, Burks could be a solid fill-in.
Randy Gregory saw a solid 25% pressure rate in his first action with the 49ers. Gregory only saw a 34% snap share, so I wouldn’t make him a priority add quite yet.
Anthony Walker Jr suffered a concussion and only saw a 37% snap share.
Despite Walker Jr’s concussion, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah still couldnt’ see higher than a 79% snap share. Even Sione Takitaki saw nearly as many snaps as JOK, in only a half of football.
JOK did have one of his best games of the season with five tackles, three tackles for loss, two QB hits, and a sack.

CAR @ MIA

This could either be the last time I mention Jeremy Chinn, or just the beginning. Chinn, despite the injuries across the defense, could only muster a 39% snap share.
There are plenty of discussions about the trade potential for Jeremy Chinn. If he is traded to a team that wants to utilize his talents, he could have tremendous value…(this is my optimism)
Frankie Luvu suffered a hip injury, but had nine tackles prior. The Panthers have a BYE in Week 7, so he should have plenty of time to heal up.
Jealan Phillips returned after missing a couple weeks with an oblique strain. Phillips only saw a 43% snap share, which had ancillary affects across the defense.
When Phillips is out of lineup or limited, Andrew Van Ginkel sees more edge snaps, and that has an increase of snaps for David Long. As Phillips’ snaps return to form, expect Van Ginkel to see more snaps on the interior and less pass-rush, thus hurting his value.

IND @ JAX

Grover Stewart has been suspended for six games due to violating the league’s PED rules. While Stewart wasn’t an elite IDP, he did help create pressure on the opposing QB and opened up gaps for LBs to make plays
Shaq Leonard returned to an 80% snap role (early down work), thus diminishing E.J. Speed to 3rd down work (42%). Leonard did have seven tackles (1 TFL), but it may take me a couple weeks to truly trust him.
Devin Lloyd returned and was immediately thrust into a full-time role. Great news for Lloyd owners, but bad news for anyone hoping Muma would retain some role.
Muma saw 0% of the snaps
Travon Walker now has back-to-back weeks leading the Jags in pressures. He has seen snap shares of 88% and 80%. With a matchup vs a depleted Saints O-Line, it could pay off to insert him in your Week 7 lineup.

DET @ TB

Tampa Bay had done something that has only been done twice…hold Aidan Hutchinson to a single QB pressure.
Calijah Kancey returned in a big way. He had a 21% pressure rate with two QB hits and a sack. In DT leagues, Kancey is a player to add in a nice matchup against the Falcons.
Devin White had another less-than-stellar week. This seven-tackle performance was his fourth in a row without a double-digit tackle game. On a positive note, he did have 11 blitzes, giving him 42 on the season. White continues to be near the top of the LBs in blitzes/game, but yet hasn’t recorded a sack. I believe that with the constant pressure, he will start having an impact.
Keep an eye on Jack Campbell. He was 2nd on the team in total tackles, yet only played 52% of the snaps. The 3:4 solo to assist wasn’t spectacular, but if he could find a crack to regular playing time, he could be rosterable.

PHI @ NYJ

Nakobe Dean returned from the IL in Week 6. While he didn’t take on a full-time role, he did see a 49% share.
It was Nicholas Morrow who was splitting duties with Dean in his first week back, and I would suspect it will be Morrow who will see his snap% dwindle going forward.
Haason Reddick continues his dominance after a lackluster start. He now has 5.5 sacks over the past three games. His matchup vs MIA isn’t ideal, but hard to not ride the hot hand.
Bryce Huff and Jermaine Johnson are starting to emerge as serious threats off the edge.
Hugg leads the NFL in pressures over the past three games (23), with a 35% pressure rate. Huff has an impressive 21% pressure rate in 2022, so it’s nice to see the playing time take a tick upwards.
Jermaine Johnson has had back to back weeks with at least four pressures. During this stretch, he has a solid 17% pressure rate.
Quincy Williams may just make this roundup every week until he is talked about more in IDP circles. He has 7+ tackles in every game, with an impressive 10+ in half of his games played. He is 1st in PDs among LB and Top 10 in tackles and TFLs.

ARI @ LAR

Kyzir White had another solid week, continuing his streak of 7+ tackles alive. For the 5th time in six games, White recorded a TFL. He is one of just 5 players with 30+ solo tackles and 5+ TFLs
K’Von Wallace extended his lead in box snaps among safeties. He saw another 65% box snaps and gets a Seahawks team in Week 7 that has allowed an average of seven tackles to opposing box safeties.
Ernest Jones had the questionable tag all week leading up to Week 6, but toughed out a balky knee to record 10 tackles. Monitor his knee entering Week 7 as he has already recorded a DNP to begin the week.

NE @ LV

Keion White left Week 6 early and entered the concussion protocol.
Josh Uche was limited with a knee injury. Uche has been mentioned in trade talks, and could be an interesting option with a change of scenery. After last years’ 11.5 sack (19% pressure rate) season, he has disappointed in 2023.
Jahlani Tavai saw more snaps at OLB with both White and Uche banged up. Tavai has been such a revelation for the Pats at LB, I have to wonder if he has the same value if asked to play OLB.

NYG @ BUFF

With concerns around his playing time or availability, Micah McFadden played 79% of the snaps and put up a solid stat line: 7 tackles/INT/FT/QB hit
Kayvon Thibodeaux created a season-high six pressures. It was nice to see him wreak some havoc. Thibodeaux will get the Commanders in Week 7, which is always a tasty matchup for him. He has 16 tackles, 2 sacks, and a TD in his two career games against them.
Gregory Rousseau returns and immediately sees 70% of the snaps and generates 6 pressures.
Our questions were answered about who would play 2nd fiddle to Terrel Bernard in Matt Milano’s absence….and that is Dorian Williams
Dorian Williams played 84% of the snaps, recorded 10 tackles and a QB hit.

DAL @ LAC

With LVE out, it was Damone Clark who saw 99% of the snaps. Clark chipped in for eight tackles and is on a BYE in Week 7.
Marquese Bell was a name to watch in last weeks’ article, then the Cowboys went out and signed Rashaan Evans. Bell wasn’t fazed and was everywhere on Monday night. He finished the night with seven tackles and a PD despite only playing 58% of snaps (18% tackle rate)
