Here is our breakdown of 2023 Dynasty Rookie Prospect: Tank Dell!
Player Overview
Wide Receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell is a redshirt senior from the University of Houston. This year’s wide receiver class seems to be smaller than usual, and Tank Dell is no exception. At the combine, he measured 5’8 and weighed 165 pounds.
Despite his size, Dell put up incredibly consistent numbers and was extremely productive during his college career. In both 2021 and 2022, Dell racked up over 1,300 yards and scored 29 total touchdowns. 17 of those scores came in 2022 alone.
Player Summary
Dell displays exceptional focus and tracking ability, catching the ball over his head with ease. He is very agile and his route running ability is off the charts. Dell gets high marks for his ability to separate from defenders at will and use his speed to take the top off the defense.
Dell will need to work on his hands before the NFL season starts in order to correct the issues that led to his 22 drops in college. While there are several successful receivers who share Dell’s smaller stature, including both Wes Welker and Dexter McCluster, both of those players had considerably higher playing weights. Dell needs to pack on as much weight as his frame can hold if he wants his body to withstand the evitable hits coming his way courtesy of NFL defenses.
Fantasy Summary
There is a lot to love about Tank Dell’s playing style and he may end up being one of the most exciting players to watch on Sunday. Sometimes good professional players don’t always amount to good players from a fantasy perspective. If Dell ends up showing off his punt return skills on special teams, then the outlook would not be good for his fantasy value. Until we see how teams will use Dell, he should only be drafted in dynasty formats and then in the later rounds of the draft.
