Week 5 Starts and Sits Fantasy In Frames Fantasy Football 2022

Welcome to our Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 5 of the 2022 fantasy football season!

Howdy folks! This week I’ve found for you some GREAT MATCHUPS for you to take on and for you to avoid. Here are my Fantasy Football Starts & Sits for Week 5!

Quarterbacks

Start: Carson Wentz versus The Tennessee Titans

Both the Commanders and Titans are severely underperforming this season; the Titans are, on average, allowing 21.4 fppg on the season to the quarterback position, and despite the woes along Washington’s offensive line the offense will look to have a more balanced rushing attack with Gibson, McKissic, and returning rookie Brian Robinson Jr which should keep these pass-rushers at bay for a bit, just in time for Wentz to take some deep shots against a secondary ranked 28th in the league in coverage.

I don’t say this often but fire up Wentz this week.

Additional Start Candidates: Trevor Lawrence versus The Houston Texans and Kirk Cousins versus The Chicago Bears

SIT: Matthew Stafford versus The Dallas Cowboys

The Rams rank dead last in pass-blocking in the NFL, and Stafford is dealing with an arm injury that hampered him during the preseason and seems to be hampering him a quarter through the NFL season. Oh, and not to mention, the Cowboys have elite pass-rushers that will look to make things miserable for Stafford all game long.

Hard pass.

Additional Sit Candidates: Kenny Pickett versus The Buffalo Bills and Derek Carr versus The Kansas City Chiefs

Running Backs

START: Rhamondre Stevenson versus The Detriot Lions

With an inexperienced Bailey Zappe, the Patriots will look to make use of their 9th-ranked run-blocking unit and feature the star of the Patriots backfield this season, Rhamondre Stevenson. While Damien Harris should also have FLEX value, Stevenson possesses RB2 upside this week versus the Lions.

Additional Start Candidates: Dameon Pierce versus The Jacksonville Jaguars, James Robinson versus The Houston Texans, and Jeff Wilson Jr. versus The Carolina Panthers

SIT: Antonio Gibson versus The Tennessee Titans

With the activation of Brian Robinson to the 53-man roster, which is crazy being two months removed from being shot in the leg, as well as the ever-decreasing role in the running game, the writing is on the wall that Gibson’s tenure as an every-down running back for the Washington Commanders is over despite this awesome matchup versus an underperforming Titans team. Look elsewhere this week

Additional Sit Candidates: Rashaad Penny versus The New Orleans Saints, Cam Akers versus The Dallas Cowboys, and Josh Jacobs versus The Kansas City Chiefs

Wide Receivers

START: Robert Woods versus The Washington Commanders

No Treylon Burks (aka no competition for targets), a pair of starting cornerbacks with a combined NFL passer rating when targeting allowed of around 140, and must win situation for the Titans means it’s time for “Bobby Trees” to come alive versus Washington come Sunday.

Additional Starts Candidates: Chris Godwin versus The Atlanta Falcons, Brandin Cooks versus The Jacksonville Jaguars, and Terry McLaurin versus The Washington Commanders

SIT: George Pickens versus The Buffalo Bills

Do not be fooled by the highlight plays. George Pickens is a talented rookie wide receiver and a good waiver pickup this week. However, you cannot start him this week against the Buffalo Bills. It isn’t about Pickens’ talent. It is about Kenny Pickett starting his first NFL game against the dominant Buffalo Bills’ defense. On the bright side, Pickens was Pickett’s favorite target after he entered the game for Trubisky. Unfortunately, this is the matchup you must avoid this week. Keep George Pickens on your bench, and hopefully, you can get him in your starting lineup in a future week.

Additional Sit Candidates: DeVante Parkers versus The Detroit Lions, Allen Lazard versus The New York Giants, and Drake London versus The Atlanta Falcons

Tight Ends

START: Gerald Everett versus The Cleveland Browns

Gerald Everett is the TE5 in half-PPR through four games this season. He is getting plenty of targets in the middle of the field because Keenan Allen has been out for a few weeks. As of right now, Allen looks doubtful to play in Week 5. Everett has the 4th highest yards per reception for tight ends with at least ten receptions (13.2). Over the last three games, Everett is 3rd on the team in target share with 17.7%, only behind Mike Williams (21.8%) and Austin Ekeler (20.2%). When you pick a tight end to start, you want to chase targets, and Everett sees enough targets downfield to provide plenty of upside. The Cleveland Browns’ defense has not been dominant like we expected in the preseason, so you can start a tight end against them. Please note, as of this writing, Everett is questionable after being limited on Thursday. If he is ruled out before the game, start one of the tight ends below.

SIT: Pat Freiermuth versus The Buffalo Bills

This one is simple: see George Pickens. The Buffalo Bills’ defense is REALLY good. I have zero confidence that rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett, will play well in this matchup. That directly impacts Pat Freiermuth. It was encouraging to see Freiermuth get nine targets last week, and his target share (23.8%) for the season is 2nd on the team and great for a tight end. However, this is a matchup that you need to avoid. Do not drop Pat Freiermuth, but let’s see how Pickett plays as the starting quarterback for a couple of games. This week you should pick up and play one of the following tight ends instead: Tyler Conklin (44.1% rostered on ESPN), Irv Smith Jr. (31%), Robert Tonyan (23.2%), or Evan Engram (20.4%)

Additional Sit Candidate: Dalton Schultz versus The Los Angeles Rams, Irv Smith versus The Chicago Bears, and Logan Thomas versus The Tennessee Titans
