Welcome, #4EYEDfans!
You want the edge in your fantasy football matchups each week? Then you’ve come to the right place!
In these articles, we’ll highlight the players that may or may not have the best matchups to exploit this week in order to help you know how to set your lineups with confidence!
Let’s examine some important matchups on offense in Week 8!
Quarterbacks
Derek Carr vs. Cleveland
Cleveland is allowing opposing quarterbacks to score the seventh-most fantasy points per game at 22.3. The Browns have now allowed three Top-5 quarterback finishes on the season. No team has allowed more passing yards on the season than the Browns. In fact, the Browns just let Joe Burrow sling it around for over 400 passing yards and three scores! Carr is averaging 287.67 passing yards per game this year and has 13 touchdowns through six weeks.
Tua Tagovailoa vs. Los Angeles Rams
Aaron Donald entered the league in 2014. Since then, rookie quarterbacks are 0-5 with a 31.4 QBR when facing off against the Rams. The Rams are also allowing just 16.9 FP/G and have given up just eight passing touchdowns on the season. Glad its Tua Time down in South Beach, but this matchup does not look good on paper for him.
Running Backs
Dalvin Cook/Alexander Mattison vs. Green Bay
Devonta Freeman/Wayne Gallman vs. Tampa Bay
Never running backs against Tampa Bay. Over the last two weeks, this defensive front has held Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs to a measly 32 yards on 20 carries. Freeman is carrying a questionable tag into Sunday as well. Avoid this backfield at all costs this week.
Leonard Fournette vs. New York Giants
The Tampa Bay defense should have a field day with Daniel Jones and company on Sunday. The Giants allow 22.7 fantasy points per game to running backs. Last week, Lenny Fournette saw 55% of the snaps compared to 44% for Ronald Jones. Jones saw a few extra carries but Fournette dominated the touches in the air. In his two healthy games this season, he’s racked up 10 receptions. Took long enough, but Fournette is finally taking over this backfield.
Wide Receiver
Tyler Boyd vs. Tennessee
Joe Burrow leads the league in dropbacks which has propelled Tyler Boyd to a fantastic fantasy season so far. Last week Boyd had his second 100-yard game and his second game with double-digit receptions. The Titans are allowing 37.4 FP/G to opposing wideouts. They are also one of five teams to allow over 100 receptions to the position. Boyd now has at least four receptions in every game this year. Would it surprise you that Boyd is WR9 in PPR formats?
Brandon Aiyuk vs. Seattle
Seattle is allowing nearly 10 more fantasy points to wide receivers than any other team. With Deebo out, Aiyuk looks to be the second option behind George Kittle. Aiyuk has now scored three touchdowns over the last five weeks and is coming off the first 100-yard game of his young career. He hasn’t had a carry in the last three weeks, but with Deebo Samuel missing this week, I wouldn’t be surprised if he received a few handoffs.
Brandon Aiyuk’s timeline:
WK2 – first game, 2/21
WK3 – 5/70 & a rushing TD
WK4 – another rushing TD
WK5 – 3/44
WK6 – receiving TD
WK7 – 100-yard game
WK8 – Seattle— David J. Gautieri (@GuruFantasyWrld) October 26, 2020
Tight Ends
Mark Andrews vs. Pittsburgh
Is anyone ballsy enough to actually sit Mark Andrews? Pittsburgh against the tight end has been a staple in the matchup articles. Only two tight ends have surpassed 30 receiving yards against this defense and to make matters worse Andrews has looked very touchdown-dependent through six games. He has found the endzone five times but he’s yet to eclipse 60 receiving yards in a game this season. Andrews hasn’t seen the targets that you would hope for. He has topped three catches only twice this season. If you own him, you probably play him but temper expectations.
Richard Rodgers vs. Dallas
Rick Rodgers gets Dallas this week, so why not? Jaelon Reagor is set to come back but that won’t stop Dick Rod from seeing a healthy dose of targets. Wentz loves to find the tight end and Rodgers is coming off a six catch, 85-yard week. Goedert should be back after the bye next week, so Rodgers has one more week as one of the top options for Wentz against a defense that gives up the ninth most fantasy points per game to the position. If Goedert does happen to play though, he’s a must-start.
