4-EYED OBSERVATIONS FROM WEEK 5 (2018)

By @JorgeBEdwards

Another week of NFL action is in the books and with it comes new storylines for us fantasy football fans to get excited about. If you’re anything like me you’ve probably been overwhelmed with the sheer number of plays and storylines that went on this weekend that you can’t decide which ones can actually help you going forward in your fantasy football leagues. That is where the 4-EYED OBSERVATIONS come in handy.

The goal of the 4-EYED OBSERVATIONS is to provide you insight that might help you this season in terms of picking up OR getting rid of players with the hopes of helping you bring home a fantasy football championship this year!

Speaking of celebrating a fantasy football championship……

4-EYED OBSERVATION #1

Averaging 13.5 fantasy points per game since making his way onto the football field, Baker Mayfield put up an impressive stat line against a stingy Baltimore Ravens defense this past Sunday leading Cleveland to its first victory on a Sunday since 2015. Passing for 342 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT, Mayfield displayed a lot of poise in the pocket as well as showed off his ability to scramble, which for fantasy football purposes is gold, putting up a total of 18 fantasy points.

Going forward Mayfield and the Browns face the Chargers, Buccaneers, Steelers, Chiefs, & Falcons, all of whom are at the bottom of the league in terms of fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position. If his increasing trend of fantasy performance is any indication Mayfield might be in a position to have the most favorable streaming schedule for a quarterback this season. Pick him up off your waiver wire where available and do not fear to start him over the next 5 weeks if you are in need of quarterback help.

4-EYED OBSERVATION #2

Mark Ingram II made his return from suspension this past Monday Night against the Washington Redskins posting 53 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving, 2 TDs and 20.3 fantasy points in 0.5 PPR scoring leagues. Many of fantasy manager, yours truly included, were hoping for a performance like this from Ingram upon his return and the man didn’t disappoint. But what about going forward?

The Saints, after their week 6 bye, take on the Ravens, Vikings, Rams, & Bengals all of which are very good defenses against the run. Ingram managers should take this into consideration when projecting out his performance in the coming months as the lofty performances he had in 2017 might not be as sure of a lock this season.

4-EYED OBSERVATION #3

Jordan Reed is washed. That’s right I said it. Finally healthy we all predicted Reed to have a bounce-back year, especially playing with a quarterback who has a history of relying heavily on his tight end. Instead, he has averaged a mere 7.9 fppg this season. In Week 5 he only had one reception for 2.1 yards and a solo tackle for a grand total of 3.6 fantasy points against the Saints. From the looks of it there are a lot of things wrong for Washington on offense. Until they figure it out I would be hesitant to start Reed week in and week out despite the shortage of viable starters at the position. I would advise you stream the best you can at the position until Reed shows a repeated pattern of being more involved in this offense.

4-EYED OBSERVATION #4

Do you all remember Budda Baker? You know…the safety I was talking up all during the preseason. Well…he just put up 20 fantasy points last week against the 49ers. Recording double-digit tackles in 3 out of 5 weeks this season Baker is averaging 10.5 fantasy points per game making him one of the elite defensive backs in the league. For those who targeted him early in drafts this year, pat yourselves on the back. For those who just got lucky drafting him, pat yourself on the back. For those who passed on him, hahahahaha sucks for you!
