Another week of action is in the books after an exciting week 9 in the National Football League, and with it comes new storylines for fantasy football fans to get excited about. As I do every week here at FANTASY IN FRAMES I bring you four observations from this past week’s action which have the potential to positively impact your team’s success going forward this season!
Without further adieu, let’s take a look at my 4-EYED OBSERVATIONS FROM WEEK 9!
4-EYED OBSERVATION #1: Tevin Coleman is the real dirty bird from Atlanta you want going forward this year!
Against Washington, in week 9 Coleman put up 30.1 fantasy points in 0.5 PPR leagues. Having taken over the reigns of the Falcons backfield for good this season, with Devonta Freeman going on IR, Coleman finally lived up to expectations on Sunday combining for 156 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs. Ranked 7th in rushing efficiency in week 9, Coleman had success averaging 6.9 yards per carry (3rd highest among running backs in week 9) against a stout Redskins defensive front that showed 8 or more men in the box 23.08% of the time on Sunday. In fact, only Melvin Gordon and Kareem Hunt were more efficient while facing 8 or more defenders in the box 20% or more of the time this past week.
Coleman and the Falcons face a Cleveland team ranked 29th against the run in week 10 which allows 138.9 yards per game on the ground. Coleman is locked and loaded RB1 this coming week!
4-EYED OBSERVATION #2: Josh Gordon finally “arrived” in Foxborough!
In week 9, Gordon ranked 1st in the league in yards after catch (14.9), 4th in air yards (15.6), and tied for 6th in targets (10) for a combined 5 receptions for 130 yards, 1 TD, & 21.5 fantasy points in 0.5 PPR leagues. While the coming out party finally took place with the Patriots, it’s best to temper expectations going into next week’s matchup against a Titans defense that only allows 226.4 yards passing per game going into Monday night’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. However, the way cornerback Malcom Butler has been playing against wide receivers starting Gordon might be very wise thing to do. Following the Patriots week 11 bye week Gordon will find himself in another juicy matchup in week 12 versus the Jets!
4-EYED OBSERVATION #3: Philip Rivers continues to play like he DGAF!
Rivers, in week 9, led the league in total completed air yards (10.4) and aggressiveness percentage at 34.6% which is indicative of how often he was willing to throw to the ball into tight coverage. Clearly, he showed no sign of fear for the Seahawks defense passing for 282 yards, 2 TDs, and 17.1 fantasy points. The re-emergence of Keenan Allen also is a good sign of Rivers’ performance going forward. Next week he’ll look to continue his soon to be Pro-Bowl season taking on a Raiders team that was just decimated by San Francisco third-string quarterback Nick Mullins this past Thursday. Rivers should be a top 5 QB in week 10!
4-EYED OBSERVATION #4: Clearly someone said he had a girl’s first name because Danielle Hunter went OFF on the Detroit Lions on Sunday!
.@Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter (@DHunt94_TX) became the 2nd player since 1982 to record at least 3.5 sacks and score a TD in a single game, joining the Chargers’ Shaun Phillips (Oct. 3, 2010).

For the record (DAN-NEAL) Hunter has the manliest name I know ( please don’t hurt me). With 6 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble return for a TD, and 25 fantasy points later (scoring via FANTASY IN FRAMES’ IDP scoring rubric) Hunter was a man on a mission on Sunday utterly decimating the Lions offense. While 25 fantasy points is a lofty expectation for a defensive lineman, the 6.9 fantasy point per game average he’s maintained this season is not. Clearly Hunter is one of the best pass rushers in the game (ranked 6th in FANTASY IN FRAMES’ IDP leagues) and with Everson Griffen returning to the starting lineup you should continue to start Hunter every week in leagues which have a dedicated defensive lineman spot as both Hunter and Griffen will provide openings for each other along the defensive line going forward this season!
