Top 10 IDP-Defensive Backs From 2017

[social_warfare]

Here is a list of the Top 10 Fantasy Football Defensive Backs in 2017 based on FantasyInFrames’ standard scoring rubric for Individual Defensive Player (IDP) players utilizing ESPN’s fantasy scoring options. While many sources in the arena of IDP leagues vary from place to place we believe that this rubric provides a balanced scoring system that will help to supplant any scoring deficiencies you might have on the offensive side of your team’s starting roster.

In other words, by adopting this scoring system to your league you will provide a means for defensive players to help you win fantasy football games and championships just like in “real-life” football without the overinflated scoring metrics found in other types of IDP leagues with “Tackle Heavy or Big Play” scoring settings which have the potential to confuse and aggravate the average fantasy football player. After all, this IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! This scoring rubric is as follows:

There are three rankings metrics examined when looking at these Top 10 scoring Defensive Backs of 2017. All of these metrics only count data for 15 weeks of an NFL Fantasy Football season since BYE weeks don’t help anyone AND assuming you don’t play in week 17…which if you do find another league:

  1. The average number of fantasy points scored by a player over the course of 15 games in fantasy football season
  2. The average % of a time a player has scored double-digit points over the course of those 15 weeks
  3. The average number of double-digit points scored when a player has achieved a double-digit point total

The purpose of these metrics is to give you an idea of just how much the Top 10 overall scoring Defensive Backs in 2017 helped you on average during the course of a season, how consistent there were at helping you achieve double-digit points during a season, and when they did go off by how much.

Basically, with this information, you can start to understand the differences in not just WHAT a player scores, but HOW they do it and HOW often.

Over the course of the offseason, we’ll be providing you more IDP content at other positions leading up to and through the 2018 Fantasy Football season.

Here is your IDP Top 10 Defensive Back scoring data for 2017!

Let’s talk about Defensive Backs (DB’s). As we learned from In Frame #1 this year,  tackles are a sure fire way to rack up fantasy points in IDP leagues. DB’s will have a little bit more difficult time getting you fantasy points unless you make scoring adjustments to compensate for the lack of tackle opportunity. For example, awarding points for interceptions, passes defensed, pick-6’s, safeties, sacks, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, solo and assisted tackles go a long way to compensate for the lack of tackle opportunities linebackers get.

Another strategy when selecting DB’s is understanding what each position in the defensive secondary. You have your cornerbacks who are more likely to secure you points via interceptions, passes defensed, pick 6’s, free safeties who add a little bit more in the way of tackle opportunities as well as provide similar scoring opportunities as cornerbacks, and then you have strong safeties which have the most potential for scoring opportunities for a multitude of categories listed above since they’re considered the “heavy-hitters” in the defensive backfield.

When looking at the lists above you’ll notice a majority of them are safeties while a couple of them are considered cornerbacks. Keep this distribution of player-specific positions in mind when drafting your IDP-DB’s in 2018!
