Frames Fam, it’s Rhett Manuel and I’m here giving you another edition of the Fantasy In Frames Rookie Profile Series for 2024.
We’ve got landing spots now. We’ve done OTAs and we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what these depth charts will look like. So, today, we’re doing to dive into Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Brooks and his profile, his pros, his cons and ultimately The draft is over, and we know where these rookies have landed. So let’s take a look at the 2024 Rookie Profile of Jonathan Brooks, what he did in college and how all of this may project towards his NFL career.
Player Overview
Taken as the 46th overall player, Brooks was the first running back selected in this year’s draft. There’s a reason for that. Following last year’s disastrous signing of Miles Sanders in free agency and the mostly so-so performance of Chuba Hubbard, the Panthers have made it clear that Brooks is going to have a big role in their offense once fully healthy following an ACL tear during his 2023 season at Texas.
Rookie Summary
Brooks was a late producer during his redshirt sophomore season at Texas, but not due to talent. In his first two seasons, Brooks was in a loaded running back room that featured Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson. Both ended up being running backs with high draft capital. When given the opportunity, Johnson rushed for over 1,100 yards in only 10 games and had 11 total touchdowns.
Fantasy Value
There are a ton of reasons to love Brooks in Carolina. In the opportunity department, Brooks is stepping in with a head coach in Dave Canales that has a history of letting backs take on a bellcow workload. That opportunity, combined with his 25 catch season last year gives us reason to believe that there is the possibility of a three-down workload. But, coming off of a knee injury there is reason for skepticism that he may not be ready for Week One. Whatever the case is, Brooks showed enough upside last season at Texas to make Carolina believe he was worthy of being the first running back selected despite being in recovery for a torn ACL.
Brooks is exactly the type of player that projects for success at the NFL level. If he develops that ability needed to grind out extra yards after contact, he can potentially be a high-level fantasy producer for years to come. His current situation gives him the opportunity to make a first-year impact as well.
