Many drafts are coming up soon, and I will discuss why you should consider Kyle Pitts a huge redraft target for the 2024 season!
Kyle Pitts did not have a great season last year. He was hampered by mediocre to bad quarterback play from Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinike. Also, some people tend to forget that he was still recovering from his knee injury in the 2022 season. Along with a coach in Arthur Smith, who ran 12 personnel 42% of the time in 2023, the highest percentage in the NFL, the Falcons under Smith also ran the lowest percentage of 11 personnel at 15%. Arthur Smith also loved to use Jonnu Smith almost as much as he used Pitts. One reason for optimism is that there is a new coaching staff, and he is playing with the best quarterback he has played with since being drafted in the NFL.
We got a small taste of what Pitts could do with the corpse of Matt Ryan in Pitts’ rookie season (2021), posting 68 receptions for 1026 yards and one touchdown. Since then we have been waiting for him to follow that up with a better season. A new coaching staff has been put into place with Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson, plucked straight off the McVay coaching tree.
Last season, as the Rams’ Passing Game Coordinator, they made 583 passing attempts, 53 more than the 2023 Falcons. Sean McVay and any of his disciples are famously known for using 11 personnel sets quite often, and it won’t change this time either. Then add Kirk Cousins, who is coming over from working under Kevin O’Connell, another McVay disciple. It seems like a match made in heaven. Another possibly biggest reason for optimism is that Kirk Cousins hyper-targets the tight end.
I honestly don’t see too much of a reason to worry about Pitts not finishing in the top 3 for tight ends in fantasy. The only worry I have is if Captain Kirk is not at 100% coming off of his 2023 Achilles injury.
The re-breakout is finally here!!!!! Fantasy Managers Rejoice!!!! Those of you who are tired of believing in Pitts anymore, give him this one last season. If things go how they should go with this complete culture change in Atlanta, you could be looking at the TE1 by the end of the season!!!!!!
