Will The Hometown Kid Make A Swift Exit?
D’Andre Swift had an up-and-down 2023 season for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was traded from Detroit to the city he is from, Philadelphia. It started like a match made in heaven. Remember in week two against the Vikings, where he exploded for 175 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown? In his first half of the season, he set the league on fire as the RB17 with just a few points shy of the top 10. Then the wheels just kinda fell off, not just for Swift, but the entire offense sputtered out. Even with a 2nd half collapse, D’Andre Swift finished the season as the RB23 with 1,049 rushing yards and six total touchdowns. Did he do enough to earn another contract with the Eagles, or will GM Howie Roseman again look for a discount at the RB position? Here are some possible scenarios to play out for D’Andre Swift in 2024.
Philadelphia Eagles
Perhaps Swift has done enough in his only season in Philly as the feature back to earn a multi-year contract with the Eagles. Even though it would seem to go against Howie Roseman’s character, I wouldn’t put it past him to lock him down on a 3-year, 24-million-dollar deal. I would forecast D’Andre Swift to be a bargain in redraft maybe next season if that were the case. Last year, his ADP, according to fantasypros.com, was 67th overall in Half-PPR. Considering his second-half woes, on top of the Eagles’ offense falling apart, he may drop a whole round or two next season. If this were to happen, I would be a huge buyer at that price with the talent on this roster around him.
Kansas City Chiefs
Isaiah Pacheco has been a 7th round gem and still has two years remaining on his rookie deal. If the Chiefs can lure D’Andre Swift with Super Bowl aspirations on a two- or three-year deal, they will try. There’s no denying that the Chiefs need to improve this offense for Patrick Mahomes. It would surely dampen his fantasy numbers with Pacheco getting a fair amount of touches, but It’s important to note that D’Andre Swift averages nearly 50 catches a season. That being said, I would estimate he catches 75 balls as the receiving back for Andy Reid and would crush his ADP in 2024 with the potential fall from his ADP last year.
Houston Texans
Landing in Houston would be a problem (see what I did there?) for teams to have to deal with Swift in a Texans uniform. As the main back on a young upcoming offense that will only get better, we could see Swift have the best year of his career. In Houston, Swift would probably be drafted as a high-end RB2 somewhere near the third or fourth round. He has never put together 1,500 yards from scrimmage but in this offense, I strongly believe he would and could finish as a top-10 RB.
