Welcome to another IDP Redraft Target article for the 2024 IDP Fantasy Football season. I’m Jorge Edwards, and you can find me on Twitter/X at @JorgeBEdwards. Before we get going, don’t forget to follow the rest of the fantastic content by our writers and analysts here at FantasyInFrames.com.
Today, I want to talk about 2024 IDP Redraft Target Devon Witherspoon. Out of the University of Illinois, Witherspoon made his mark on the NFL during his rookie season in 2023 by playing like one of the most complete and elite CB/DB prospects the NFL has seen at the position in some time due to his versatility on the field. From an IDP Fantasy Football perspective, he wildly exceeded expectations for many fantasy managers from the sheer number of fantasy points earned from his play on the field. The reason question is can he reproduce his success in 2024 or even surpass his performance on the field and for fantasy from 2023, or are we looking at a decrease in production from this outstanding 2nd year player? Let’s find out!
After all is said and done, it IS rare for a cornerback to outproduce their safety counterparts for fantasy purposes as their tackle floors are considerably lower. It would take a cornerback who is basically making tackles, pass-breakups, and blitzing and producing pressures and sacks from all over the field at a high efficiency to do so.
Wait a minute! That is EXACTLY what Devon Witherspoon has shown he is capable of doing. The real question is whether he will be able to repeat what he did in his rookie season or whether the whole statistical regression bug will hurt his chances of being in the DB1 tier again.
In my opinion, he is a low-end DB2 with the floor of a high DB3. Yes, even as a cornerback, he has fantastic fantasy value heading into the 2024 IDP fantasy football season as an overall defensive back.
