2024 Dynasty Target: Deebo Samuel
Good news everyone! It looks as though you stumbled upon a 2024 Dynasty Targets article! Welcome to this edition where we will discuss the underrated receiver that is Deebo Samuel. Let’s dive in and see why you should be targeting him for your dynasty teams.
Player Overview
The San Francisco 49ers’ offense is one of the most dynamic ones there are in the NFL today and one of the players that contributes to making it all work is Deebo Samuel. Not only is he dominant in fantasy football, but there is an argument that can be made that Samuel’s ability is one of the keys to San Francisco’s success given their lack of it when he is out of games. The 28-year-old receiver has two years left on his contract, as well, which gives him some sense of security on your fantasy teams. Dominating as both a receiver and a runner, Deebo is a dual threat that is dangerous with the ball in his hands no matter where he lines up on the field.
Player Summary
Despite not finishing as a WR1 in PPR leagues, Deebo Samuel was one of the most efficient wide receivers in the league in 2023. His 16.2 PPG was the 13th highest among receivers and shows that he has the skills to be more productive than his 28th positional ADP implies. Samuel is being taken after receivers such as Old Man, Davante Adams. Deebo is going behind the third target on the Seattle Seahawks, Jaxon-Smith Njigba, and Jordan Addison who is the second target on the Minnesota Vikings and who, as of now, is going to be receiving passes from… *checks notes* …Sam Darnold.
Granted two of these receivers are much younger than Deebo is, a youth which dynasty players everywhere strive for, but his immediate impact is much greater than that of either those receivers. Samuel was only 22 points behind Davante Adams this last year in total points, as well, which would have been easily overcome if Deebo has played any of the three games where he suffered a hairline fracture on his shoulder after Week 6. In fact, if you extrapolate his 16.2 PPG across those three games, he finishes with 291.7 total points on the year, which is enough to put him in the top five receivers. While this extrapolation must, of course, be taken with a grain of salt, it does show that Deebo Samuel is being undervalued in the fantasy community, a mistake that you will hopefully not make.
Trade Value
In the case where you have already started a league and are looking to acquire Deebo, the Dynasty League Football (DLF) trade analyzer shows a few options that you have available to you. As shown above, he is worth a late first round pick in the 2024 rookie draft. More accurately, his value is somewhere between the 1.08 and the 1.09, which should be in line with those who need to be targeting him. In this range, you are in win-now mode and getting another play maker like Deebo Samuel can be exactly what you need to put you over the top of your competition. Another approach might be to package another aging receiver, such as DeAndre Hopkins or Amari Cooper, and a second-round pick. That might be exactly what you need to get a receiver who has more stability and should give you a better window towards your championship.
Take advantage of the moment and send out some offers in your leagues to see how people are feeling about him. Maybe the manager with him over values draft picks, or maybe you have the player they have been looking to add to their team. It never hurts to at least see what others are thinking and try to make a deal happen. I know I am.
