Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Player Overview

If you are looking for a wide receiver who consistently produces at a high level, is in a good offense, and will (should) benefit from solid quarterback play, then look no further than Cleveland Browns’ number one receiver, Amari Cooper. Taken in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Raiders, Cooper has been nothing if not consistent throughout his career. Heading into the 2023 season, Cooper will be 29 years old and shows no signs of slowing down.

Player Summary

Last season, Cooper was an absolute target hog, accounting for 26% of Cleveland’s total target share and hauling in 31% of the team’s total passing yards. He was the unquestionable wide receiver one for the Browns, and it was not even close.

Cooper uses his size, 6’1 and 210 pounds, to fight against defenders’ attempts to manhandle and push him around. He is not afraid to fight for yardage and historically averages 13.8 yards per reception. Not only that, but his average depth of target is 11.2 yards, but last season his ADOT numbers saw a significant bump up to 13.3 yards. Cooper’s size and physicality are tools he uses to his advantage, but do not discount his incredible football IQ. He is constantly aware of his quarterback and making sure it is obvious he is open. Cooper is an expert at reading defenses and lulling defenders into a false sense of security, thinking he is running one route but changing it up at the last possible minute. This allows him to get separation and get open, making the most of his opportunities.

Fantasy Summary

This will be Cooper’s eighth NFL season, inching him a little closer to that magical age cliff where we begin to worry about production levels dropping off. He turned 29 years old this summer, but he is aging like a fine wine. Cooper will have a full season paired with Brown’s Quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson himself will have the benefit of training camp and considerably more time to jell with the offense. Even with the addition of Elijah Moore, there is no reason to pass on Cooper at his current average draft position. According to our consensus Fantasy In Frames redraft ADP Cooper is the 17th overall wide receiver and the 42nd overall player off the board in points per reception formats.

Cooper averaged 15 points per game last season. He is being drafted around players like Calvin Ridley, who has not played in two seasons, and Chris Godwin, who is on possibly one of the league’s worst offenses this season. This seems to be the end of a tier of your usual suspects when looking at the higher-producing receivers. Snapping up Cooper for your team keeps you from having to pick from the likes of Jerry Jeudy, DJ Moore, and Drake London, all players with several serious question marks heading into this season.
