Here is our breakdown of 2023 IDP Redraft Target: Carl Granderson!
Estimated reading time: 4 minutes
Player Overview
For years, Carl Granderson has lived in the shadows of fellow New Orleans Saints pass rushers Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport. Perhaps rightfully so. The 2019 undrafted free agent has played behind one of the franchise’s all-time great defensive players and a first-round draft pick for years now.
However, if there is a breakout season coming, 2023 is it for Granderson. He’s moving into a full-time starting role this season and possesses the skill set to be on the field in an every-down role for the Saints.
Granderson is part of a veteran defensive unit where more attention will be paid to players with bigger names like Jordan, linebackers Demario Davis and Pete Werner, cornerback Marcus Lattimore and safety Tyrann Mathieu. However, he shouldn’t be discounted as any less of an important asset in Dennis Allen’s scheme.
Fantasy Summary
Since his rookie season in 2019, Granderson’s use within the Saints defensive scheme has become more and more prevalent. Things started to come together in a big way in the second half of 2022 for Granderson, when he was on the field for no less than 32 defensive snaps per game.
When that happened, Granderson came to life. According to FantasyPros, Granderson scored no less than eight fantasy points per game in all games but two after Week 10. He was especially dominant in Week 11 against the Rams, scoring 16 fantasy points through 1.5 sacks, a QB Pressure, and a TFL in Week 16 against the Browns. That was his high point. That 19.8-point game had him making a sack, a pressure, and 3 TFLs.
Granderson got to the QB regularly from week ten on, getting at least a half-sack in 5 of those 8 games.
It’s an interesting look into what the player can be and shows just how undervalued Granderson is in IDP formats.
There’s a strong chance that he is going undrafted in your dynasty and redraft leagues with IDP scoring formats. If he is, now is the time to be stashing Granderson. His low usage and potentially elite production means you have years of good times ahead.
