4-EYED IDP TEAM PREVIEW: ATLANTA FALCONS (2021)

For the past 3 years, the Atlanta Falcons have watched the NFL playoffs from their recliners. This is a trend that they are looking to buck, and the hiring of new DC, Dean Pees, is evidence that their defense may be a reason for their playoff-less stretch. Last year the Falcons allowed the 4th most yards per game in the NFL (most passing yards allowed), and the 14th most points in 2020. Despite the atrocious record and yards allowed, there were some reasons to optimistic on the IDP side of things. What needs to be seen is what the new DC means to last years’ IDP production. Do they produce multiple top 20 LB’s? Can they benefit from their consistent hurries (5th in NFL) and actually sack the quarterback? (23rd in sacks). Dean Pees’ system is designed to disrupt, that much is guaranteed. Whether it be in the traditional 4-3 or 3-4, his answer to which of these systems will he deploy has been “YES”. His previous seasons with the Titas, Ravens, and Patriots have produced some elite-level production in terms of IDP, and his mixed blitz packages and confusing schemes have us salivating over the potential in Atlanta.
